Talk about a class act, even the video is over the top.

After seeing Warren Stramers car at SDAC, the land speed cars wiring and lines look like a cobbled up mess.

That things is pretty sweet though. Is the engine block a one off item?

Mopar midget block. Designed to take either a W9 V8 head or a P5 Hemi head. Similar engine was used in the "Blowfish" barracuda that Foose designed and ran by the same guys that built this streamliner.

To be honest, I was expecting a DOHC head, but I would imagine not having cams and a belt would reduce the chances of it coming apart. It only runs 24# of boost and makes over 1000hp.

Yeah it is the A-4 midget block, basically a 5.2/5.9 block with the right hand cylinder bank hacked off and a 4 rod journal crank. I contemplated building one with the p5 head for as long as it took me to find out the block alone was 5000 dollars.

I thought the displacement on some of those was pretty huge. That motor also obviously revs higher then anyone posting here.

They're out there for less than that. Nobody really pays retail for anything except insurance companies.

Awesome! :thumb: +1 looking familiar to the "blowfish" setup...

DOHC? A good flowing 8v head and big valves, who needs it? Just look at Top Fuel ;)

Was that your thought when you went to a 16v?:D

Good luck trying to convert F1 series cars to 8v heads...

Wow, insane, I love speed but no way I'd do that, one mistake and your tofu.

At 426 mph, your doing 7.1 miles in 1 minute, :wow1:

Guess what, guys. No 4 cylinder. Today I ran into a guy I know who has a couple of cars that were at Bonneville. I mentioned the Speed Demon car and he does know the car, and he said the car had a V8 for that 400+ Mph run. 1000 hp is not nearlyenough to go that fast. Listen to the engine in the video and you'll notice that it does in fact sound like a V8.

Sounds like a 4 cylinder to me. I agree, 1000 hp and 650 ft/lbs doesn't seem to be enough but it works.

It says they are going for the 4 cylinder record, so if they are running an 8 cylinder, then all their literature is wrong, :(

Yup, sounds like a 4 banger. 1000hp seems like plenty in a light weight low drag car that runs in a straight line.

Here's the car as it was run this year. Note the dual exhaust outlets that you can see in the video. The 4 cylinder motor has a single.

Crap, he's right,

With a 347ci LS V8 and monster turbos force-feeding hot, dry Bonneville air into the combustion chambers to the tune of 2,200hp, the Speed Demon was set to shatter the class record and last week it did just that. With so little to reference the speed on the wide open salt, it’s hard to tell just what 426mph feel like, but keep in mind that the markers on the track that fly by every 2.11 seconds are 1/4-mile apart.

Then the link right above mentions this v8... WTF is the deal?

they made the speed with the V8 so far and have mentioned 1200 HP to Mopar for the 4 banger and they want to hit over 400 with the 4 banger. That is why it is on there site. They are showing 2 different engine photos as well, one with the W9 in the Mopar artical and the other at the top of the page with a P5 Hemi head. As in NA form the A4 has made records in NHRA of 8 second passes. But with a turbo the engine has melted down at the salt in a 67 Cuda so far, it would be intresting to see if this second salt runner can figure the A4 out enough to make a good run

One thing i never got. Why do they do this type of stuff on this type of road surface? Looks like loose stuff!!!! At least make a strip of smooth hard surface of some sort maybe 30 feet wide or something. For cushion room lol.

The guys who run ths car are local here in southern California so the guy I learned this from probably knows them pretty well. Anyway he says they run a whole variety of engines in that car to suit various classes.
