Car; 03 GT/PT 5-spd

Here’s the problem,…Car has slight/moderate hesitation when cold going thru the gears. As soon as it warms up a bit its fine all day long. When warmed up I’ve also noticed exhaust smell when handing it more than half throttle… Just put new plugs in the car but didn’t change anything.

Any ideas? O2? Wires? TB issue?

Do the PT's have TPS issues similar to the SRT-4's?

I'll bet thats what it is,.. TPS.

Whats the fix other than a new TPS?

The wire harness repair TSB the SRT-4's got......... Ironically, this was for 2003 SRT-4's as well......

So now I have a CEL on for a cam sensor. Could this be causing the hesitation issue all along? I’m not sure how or why it would but I’m not familiar enough with this newer system to rule it out...

It's possible. I'd still look at the TPS issue to rule that out for the future, and I'd do the plug wires too.

Oh and put a fresh set of NGK 4306's in there too. Gap em to about .035.

How many miles? My sisters 100k mile '05 Neon just needed a cam sensor and from what I understand, that's fairly common and it's the same sensor used on the 2.4's. Car started and ran, had a hesitation/cut out on occassion and triggered the CEL. Code showed cam sensor, which was a $20 part. Swapped the sensor for her and all is well.

If yours is throwing a cam sensor code, seems likely that a bad cam sensor triggered it.

For the extra couple bucks if you're replacing the cam sensor also change out the magnet that is underneath. Should be held in by a torx screw i believe. My buddy had a PT turbo and the new sensor alone didnt fix the problem (P0340 and intermittent hesitation) but swapping both the magnet and sensor cured the issue.

I guess if the motor has been run long and hot the magnet could have got above it's curie point and dropped some strength.

I run the Champions in my SRT-4. I did some reading on SRT forums and though Mopar recommends the NGK 4306s with the Stage kits I found several threads where owners felt the Champions were better plugs.
