I thought I seen a while back that someone has done this and was wondering how it looks on the car do the lines match up or is it just odd looking,

Oh its for an 89 daytona shelby

daytona rt rear on an 89? i believe you'd have to do some bodywork to graft it all in!!!

i remember that car. from what i remember he took the whole piece that goes around the taillights and everything. i cant think of the name but its the whole piece that the license plate bolts to. the whole piece that goes from the rear quarter to rear quarter and the taillights from the r/t should bolt right in. Yeah the rear taillight housing and rear bumper would be a bolt on deal, but I'm not sure how it would look. I'm not sure if you could just swap only the taillight housing or if you need the rear bumper as well.

I'd need the bumper as well

It's on a red 87 ShelbyZ that has been converted with the 89 gfx. I remember it lining up well, but I haven't seen it up close. I had a pic ......

^^I've seen the car really up close and inspected the swap, its looks seemless and fit perfectly. The wiring is the only real issue. This was done on Artur P.'s Shelby Z.

I've seen the rear bumper of a 92/93 daytona on a 86 Daytona. It was aweful. That was way in 1997.

So I can't imagine it looking any better on a 89 Daytona.

I can't imagine a 1st gen G-body with a 3rd gen rear bumper. It simply wouldn't work. Anywyas, this is a direct copy of my post in the other thread. I hope it puts some mysteries to rest.

BTW, the wiring DOES work. On '89's you may have to extend it to the dash of the car, but it's plug-n-play for the most part. My '90 had all the same plugs and all as the '92 donor car, I simply plugged it all in. NO wiring needed, but you HAVE to have the wiring from the donor car.

This is an overall view of the back of the car. As you can see the older style rear bumber cover doesn't go up as high as the newer one, but this isn't very noticable in person. Also note the indent for the tag from the older tail light assembly. Again, it isn't that bad in person.

This is a close up of the hatch lock cylinder. I chose not to change mine out becuase it was a HUGE hassle. Once again, not that noticable in person.

This is a close up of the space made by the indent for the tag in the bumper cover vs. the newer taillights.

This is a cool (IMHO) swap for these cars, but it's so subtle that I actually have to TELL people I did it! Most don't notice it at all...

I had heard about this before as well, but only though that the rear taillight housing and taillights were needed. Seeing it needs the rear bumper and some tweaking with the wiring makes it a lot more clear. Personally I like the '89-'91 rear bumpers best, but regardless, this swap is a very unique addition!

eh...the bumper isn't *needed* per se. Not only that but the 3rd gen bumper doesn't really match the body lines of the 2nd gen cars. It fits, but it doesn't look quite right IMHO...

As for the wiring...it truly is plung-n-play for 1990-1993 cars. For '89 and older you just have to extend the wiring so it goes to the power block under the dash(I think it's even the same block, just in a different location!). The plugs should work fine...
