adding oil to tranny

I pulled the shaft out of the transmission, while trying to wedge the strut out, and lost a little fluid from the trans. I heard you can add oil from the top without taking the wheel off by removing the reverse switch or something from the top. I'm not 100% sure what that is. Is it the plug with a rubber boot and wires coming out of it under the stock air box? I have an A555 i believe its a 89 daytona shelby. Just let me know thanks

before you add, why don't you check the level? if you can feel the fluid you'll be just fine.

is it the rubber plug thats on the side? and how easily does it go back in?

It should just pop right out of there. It is rubber after all...

i started to pull it and oil started to squeeze out around the outside of it so I was hesitant to pull it in fear that it wouls all drain out. Sorry I'm kind of a noob when it comes to all of this. Just trying to learn.

I believe the max fill line for the 555 is the height of the plug, so if oil is coming out when you pull the plug it might be over filled.

Thats what I was wondering. I heard if you take the plug out and dump it in from the top where that reverse switch thing is you know its full when it starts coming out the plug.

use a screwdriver and pop out the rubber plug, if oil comes out, put the plug back in. if no oil comes out stick your finger in the hole (the transmission hole not your hole) if you feel fluid then put the plug back in.

it's not rocket science.

Make sure you have the front of the car level and not off to one side, otherwise you wont' get an accurate oil level reading, :p

I fill through the reverse light and put a drain plug in the differential. Doesnt hurt to put a little extra in there... Especially the 555/520.

i filler up right to the top, cuz if a little is better too much should be perfect.:o

It is a well know fact the 555/520 should be slightly overfilled to help in 5th gear lubrication.

Oh well... Ignore list has to be one of the best features on this board :o

Thanks for the responses guys. The only other question I have is about filling through the reverse light for future purposes. Is that the rubber piece with the wires coming out of it right under the air box?

I usually take the wheel off and drop the car to the ride height. I have a 525 and over filling results in the breather tube spewing oil all over the car underneath.
