Once they figure out what's going to happen to the club leadership, I'm sure a location will be discussed. It's pretty wide open now... but there seems to be a lot of interest in a Vegas event. We know at least 10 cars will show up. *cough* Alan *cough* ;)

I threw this out there to the folks in Waukegan at 21, if it is Vegas, I'd want a bunch of drivers flying into John Wayne airport Orange County and we'd drive 10 of my cars(or maybe the 6 that run at any given time:o) the 250 or so miles there. Forza has offered another 15+ cars (C'mon 20 man, you're not really gonna bring the Italian or German iron are ya:p) and I don't know if he has that many drivers lined up locally:eyebrows:

Detroit was awesome due to all of the Chrysler related history there. Plus, it wasn't busy on the highways around where everything took place. Although the car show wasn't at a park, it was at the Chrysler museum which was a great addition to the show. Need I also say that the hotel was great (not just quality, but parking lot shananigans as well?!? :D I'd be all for going back there next year or if an every other or every-two year plan was instituted.

I bet I could get Quaker City Dragstrip in Salem, Ohio for next to nothing for us to race at.
Plenty of parks for the Car Show.
Nelson Ledges is not to far away for the road course racers.

But what do I know ???
I have only put on National Car Meets from 1985 to 1991 and then another in 2008.
Those meets got on the Front Cover of 17 National Car Magazines and featured inside 32 Car Magazines over the years.
Hell we even got on the Front Cover of HOT ROD Magazine 2 years in a row.
We even received 24 pages of editorial inside those two issues of HOT ROD.

From my house to Vegas one way...1851.6 miles or 28 hours and 5 minutes according to Mapquest. I think Matchbox might make it in about 30 hours driving at a slow wrist pin slapping noise drive! I might need to take more alternators with me too. I changed one two weeks ago. The second one that I put in at Topeka at the first SDAC there finally died. (I had put in one the day before at the hotel there too!) Soooo, before I drove home I had to change to the new one that I just bought last week for a just-in-case deal. Even though it has a lifetime warranty I still will buy another new one for that just-in-case moment!

---------- Post added at 09:38 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:34 PM ----------

Since the onstart of last years racing season and until now I have had to replace a 20 year old Holly 5220 carb, a 25 year old Autometer Monster tach, a 25 year old Holly Electric Red fuel pump, and TWO 20 year old used alternators....dang US made junk...don't last like it should! ; )

You have suggested these places before but have never quoted a price to me. If Nelson Ledges can be had for a day for less than $2000 then it might be a break even track day. We will only get about 20-25 road racers, and the insurance for a track day will probably run more than $3000, so the total for the day needs to come in at no more than $5000. And that would make it a $200-250 fee for each driver for a road course day. Any more than that and the number of folks willing to pay drops off dramatically and puts the event in jeopardy. If you are serious Chuck, come up with the actual dollar figures, otherwise it is just all talk.

And if folks are serious about having an SDAC event near them, then they should be calling the tracks and facilities near them to get the prices. Don't post contact info here, YOU call them. That is part of the process, and if SDAC should come to your area, then you better be prepared to do a lot more than that.

When contacting a track to get rental info, find out how much to rent for a day. Find out if they require us to get a specific amount of liability insurance coverage ($1M, $2M, $5M, etc). If they ask how many drivers/racers, the safe answer is "less than 50."

I just got off the phone with Nelson Ledges and they have FUN DAYS there.
A FUN DAY cost this year $130.00 per driver/car.
You have to attend a mandatory driver's meeting at 0930 and the first group gets the track at 10:00am
They usually have 3 groups and so you would get 20 minutes of track time every hour.
They close the track at 4:00pm so you would get on the track; FIVE times for a total of 100 minutes.
( providing no one wrecks ).

Roll bars or roll cages are not mandatory unless you are racing a convertible.

I will contact the new owner of QCR and the owner of Nelson Ledges.

Just so you know in 2008 I got Quaker City Dragstrip for FREE.
That included all personnel, the use of the track and the insurance for two days.

PM me your number and I will call.

ChuckThis year we had 36 drag racers and about 100 spectators. We don't charge spectators unless they are not registered nor SDAC members. The number of racers is just below average, so that is a good number to use. Is QS a 1/4 mile track, does it have scoreboards, and are the pits paved or gravel?

For road course, I strongly doubt we will get more than 25 drivers and 75 spectators, but road course is usually based on daily rental and they only charge more if more than 100 cars show up (I wish).

You can call the club line, leave a message and I will call you back. 586-759-6160

QCR is a 1/4 mile track. The pits are all GRASS with blacktop roads running throughout. There are scoreboards, concession stand, toilets that flush and running water to wash your hands afterwards, a play area with a fence inclosure for the kids, they sell race gas there, they even have VIP Suites in the tower.

They race Friday nights and Saturday afternoons now at QCR.
I have called the owner and left a message.
I am now waiting on his return call.

Cordes; with all due respect, I did get the track for FREE.
I did barter to get that rate by giving the track 50% of or entrance gate and 50 % of our spectator gate.
Anything is possible as long as one is willing to ask.

I would not be willing to make that deal. I MUST know what it costs to rent the track for a day. I MUST know our costs going in, to plan effectively.

I just got off the phone with Nelson Ledges and they gave FUN DAYS there.

And again, we cannot do that. We need to rent their track for a day, a weekday. We hold a driving school where instructors are with the novices, and the novices drive in their own group so they will not be intimidated by more advanced drivers passing them nor will they be a hazard to the more experienced drivers.

So what does it cost to rent their track for a weekday? We will plan our own program, driving groups, and session times. Do they require us to get liability insurance and how much of it?

For example, at SDAC-18, Waterford Hills charged us $4000 for the day which included liability insurance (SDAC was put on their rider).

The dragstrip sounds nice! :thumb:

Either way it's awesome to see this much interest in next years event. Of course I'm selfish and want to see it the closer the better. But if someone can work a deal with the facilities to keep the costs low, I think that would get more participation in more paid events.

I know that you already promised 'black beauty' to one of the other guys(Andy or Jackson I think, can't remember[kinda drunk]) if this comes to fruition, BUT, maybe I need to come out to OC a week before the SDAC if it is held there in Vegas and get her running right. It says 399 on the dash plaque but maybe I'm naive, those in the know said it's missing the subframe connectors that make it legit. Whatever, when I go to sell it I'l sweat the documentation stuff. It's got you written all over it Nate, drive it to SDAC 22, drive it hard but don't break it:)

I can look at it and in about 5-10 minutes I will let you know for sure. Some of the little things that I am seeing from the pics tell me it isn't so, but if you PM me, I could let you know in about that much time from the VIN. It will will jump out to me so it shouldn't be that hard find. Also, I can make some inquires and confirm it with a few people and know pretty quickly the real truth to it.

Maybe I need to go to the airport and get my ticket ready, huh? :thumb:

Hell, I'd come out there just to help you get it where it needs to be. I'd fly out there and put it together for free just to see another one get put back together and dialed in. It would be just one more excuse to get out of the house and give the OL another week of stress free living. Actually, I'd just want to head to Cali and check it out(never been) and see how the other half lives... ;)

Lost track of membership and let it lapse...just renewed!

In the meantime, if the location is already picked, the sooner it's released the better. I for one have a business trip that lands on the same week as SDAC every year. If SDAC travel is doable from a location standpoint, the more time I have to make alternative plans for the business trip the better. Meaning...the sooner I know where SDAC is, the more likely it is I'll be able to go. :-)

im with pat on this. why is always top secret? Its just a date. Id like to plan things early too. thanks for understanding! see everyone soon i hope! It's never been a secret, except we've liked to let our members know before the public. And sometimes it is necessary to go a little into the planning stages prior to releasing the place. After all if something else came up for the normal date and we had to change, we might change location rather than date. Not announcing until we absolutely sure is just the proper way to do business.

All that said, it may be possible, if you sweet talk JT enough, that he will open a thread in the SDAC Members Only forum, and spill the beans there. But that is entirely up to him.

Barry
