You might find some knowledge here but looking on dakota R/T forums you would find lots of your info pretty fast. Keisler made a kit but Im not sure if its still available.

I'm a diehard stick shift person but why not get the automatic fixed ? for the cost and complexity of a stick conversion you can rebuild a torqueflite and make it just about bulletproof. I know I'll get corrected by Fleckster when I say this but that transmission is basically a warmed over 727 torqueflite with an OD unit hung on the rear.

True

I know you could get a stick for the truck but I am not sure what all would be required to do the swap. For the money I would just have the auto fixed unless you really want a stick.

it's easy, just get all the parts from a dakota since they come with stick.

Hardest part will be finding a stick 4x4 for the proper output shaft and tailhousing.

If you think about it, going from 13 to 16 mpg is like a 25% improvement! :p

Stuffed with a bunch of electronics. Even has a electronic lock up converter.

It's not really a lot of electronics. It has a governor pressure sensor and solenoid, a 4th gear solenoid, a lockup solenoid, a temp sensor, a neutral safety switch, a turbine speed sensor, and that's about it. It is MOSTLY the same as the older stuff. It's not like everything is controlled by electronics like a 604.
