now, i have a dodge stratus that uses the mitsubishi 3.0 6g72 v6 engine. what are your thoughts on a rear mount turbo? i have a spare garrett t03 thatll give this heavy car more pushing. Supposely stock specs are 200hp/205tq..which i know its not the true specs, more like 185hp/195tq...

with megasquirt an intake and i think heads, 24v shadow made 200hp to the wheels.

I looked under the hood of a stratus and im not sure there is alot of room back there for the turbo but that was just a quick look

i think that to3 is a little small and will spool way to early. youd need to make a custom header your self unless you can find one that will work in the stratus. im sure there is a header for the eclipse (same engine) but im not sure how well it will fit in a stratus engine bay.

you might want to check out club 3g and some of the stratus RT forums.

i wouldnt do it. while rear mount turbos work ok, turbo up front works better.

crossover mount seems to work easy but im not sure what setup flows the best.

crossover would make a downpipe easy to fab up

I have seen a turbo sebring with the 2.5L v6. Turbo in the engine bay. Same for a 24v sohc 3.0 Galant. Not as fast but whateva' ;)

The small turbo is better for a remote mount but it won't make much.

Well, the 01+ generation of Stratus are based off the same year generation of Eclipse / Galant, so there should be turbo manifolds out there for the engine compartment. Luckily Dodge has a habit of running speed/density systems as opposed to MAF like the Mitsubishis do - simplifies electronics and intake routing / size restrictions.

With that being said, I'm not sure if this specific Dodge uses Speed/Density as opposed to MAF, but its usually the case.

i want to say it uses mass air flow but im not 100% on that. the reason being is the stealth, laser, talon all use MAS instead because they are based directly off of the mitsu variants.

the stratus dosnt exactly looks like an eclipse but if im not mistaken, it has the same interior along with the engine so maybe it has a mas. i hate mas :(

Well, whatever you do, DO NOT venture to 2gstratus forums - everybody on there seems to think it costs about $10K to turbo them. I can see $5K, or if you have some serious fabbing skills, half that. Many people also say to avoid used and ebay stuff, but you _can_ find some good stuff on ebay, you just need to look.

To be honest - a set of manifolds to turbo a 3.0L Eclipse _should_ work, pick up a T3/T4 60 trim or so off ebay for like $300 (or buy a new Precision for like $600), Tial BOV / Wastegate ($300), some intercooler pipng and clamps ($200), MegaSquirt 2 setup with sensors and all that jazz - $500.. 30# injectors - $250 (Mustang5.0L)... its not cheap, but even with all that, and stuff I knowI missed, its less than $5K.

How much PSI can your exhaust system take?

This car would be an 01 to 05 - Only the 2nd gens came with 6g72s, first gen's got the 73.

you can force things to be cheep but reliabity over time becomes a factor

CX racing intercooler kit (intercooler, piping, bov, couplers clamps) $205 shipped
CX racing 63trim $170 shipped or so

MS (for the sohc 3.0 ran me $475 shipped set up for dizzy)

with megasquirt you run MAP anyways (ms comes with MAP sensor)

33# injectors from a supercharged 3.8 ran me no cost (im cool with parts yard owner)

the questions is.. are my injectors good? will my turbo last? will my intercooler do the job right?

what trans is in the car?

The mitsu 4spd. Not 604.

AFAIK the easiest way to get turbo on those things is to build a y-pipe coming off the stock ex manifolds that puts a turbo flange roughly in front of and slightly above the trans. Those motors dont have crossover pipes like old 3.0 and furthermore they have a big honking distributor hanging off the rear head so the typical turbo placement for a 12v 3.0 wont work.

can the mitsu 4 speed take the power?

i know the dsm atx was fairly decent...

Yes it has the mitsubishi 4spd rebuilt...my question is just to make it into a 13 second car...i already am building my charger for higher E/T times...and i have the spare garrett T03....it came with a Invidia N1 catback exhaust bolted uphttp://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a391/zeldax/IMG00017-1.jpghttp://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a391/zeldax/2009-12-271208461.jpg

I think it can take the power with mods (typical line pressure, shift kit etc). Im pretty sure its the same tranny thats been in auto dohc 3kgt's forever and some of those people have TT swapped on that trans. Thats about all i know off hand.

with megasquirt an intake and i think heads, 24v shadow made 200hp to the wheels.

Correction: the eclipse/stratus 3.0 was rated at 205/205 at the crank. I only have headers and MS on my motor. stock otherwise. An untuned dyno run was 189hp/201tq at the wheels, i have since run a 14.3 with a 3000lb full interior shadow putting me at or above 200whp.

If you do decide to boost that motor in any form, be warned that the pistons do NOT like high intake temps and there are a few other aspects to be aware of. Ring lands break off from over expanding rings, and cyl 4 failures are two of them. I'd do some reading over on club3g.com about boosting this flavor of 6g72 as there is a lot of good info there if you can wade through the GDIAF flaming of teen n00bs.
