I have a 1st gen eagle talon BOV on my daytona in wich finally runs:amen:

but the BOV just doesnt seem to be working properly, heres the issue. Unless im really on it the BOV doesnt seem to vent, instead i can hear the back pressure against the turbo: l loud shh, sshh, shh, shh (as if the BOV opens and closes constantly. and when ever i shift while cruising or even just let off the gas a little the BOV wistles very loudly?!!? Its soooooo annoying.

Can anyone please tell me if the BOV is screwed? i have it hooked to the intake just like everying else.

Sounds like it is working to me. When you let off the gas on the highway, it is releasing, when you shift it is releasing. If you don't like the sound you could put a filter over the port and it will quiet it down.

Maybe I am missing something though...

How much boost are you running?

13 psi.

the whistle happens whenever i let off of the gas at any speed. Im talkn about as slow as when stoping while going reverse at 10km/hr 20,30 it doesnt matter.

I put a filter on, but because its a really high pitch whistle it doesnt really do anything

Sounds like it is leaking then?

I have the exact same BOV and I consider it to be pretty quiet, as BOV's go. I do have a filter on the end of mine, but it never has made what I would term a whistling noise. It sounds like something may be wrong with yours. Where did you get it from? Ebay? Bone yard?

A BOV should always be open when your motor is drawing a vacuum, so if you're driving in town, and not romping on it, it should be open. Hence, when you back off to slow down there should be nothing (no pressure) to vent, so no noise! It only closes when positive pressure is created in the intake (boost).

It sounds like, from your description of it, that it is not working freely and may be binding up. Are you positive the whistle is coming from the BOV and not something else?

Mine makes a whistling noise at low boost, and it IS venting when it does that (I've checked under the hood at idle and it indeed blows air out when it's whistling). The diaphram isn't opening as much, so it changes the space the air flows through and creates the whistle. I don't, however, have any sounds of compressor surge like I did when I ran no BOV for a week.

check your vacc lines. If you used cheap nylon lines that some companys give they will melt and cause what I call the 'whipple' effect. Where the BOV will flutter open and closed rapidly.

Why the heck do you guys insist on running filters on the end of the BOV? even if it is open at idle it will be blowing air OUT never drawing air in.

I don't run a filter. Just recommended one if he didn't like the sound :)

bah! get a duck call mounted to the end of it!
NO ONE will have any idea WTF is going on.

HAHAHAHAHA i was thinkn that, i got a moose call too:eyebrows:

ill swap the BOV and see what happens

I love it :D Let me know what happens.

use good vacuum line and run it off the small nipple on the TB or one of the intake ports.

it sounds like you didnt plug the hose that goes on to your factory airbox. This is if you have a intake

fixed it:D

looks like i went a little too crazy with the gasket maker and plugged the little hole. unplugged it, took it for a spin, and now it sounds like it should:thumb:

ahh sometimes its just the little things....now wheres my duck call:evil:

I should've mentioned that. Sorry. I had a filter on there with a bunch of reducers and inducers to make it fit, and it did the exact same thing. I apologize for being so forgetful and possibly saving you some time. Glad you figured it out.

no worries i finally had time to look at it today, so no time lost

to my understanding of how the BOV works (i have a 1G Talon with a filter), what you said is wrong. it will not be blowing air OUT, but rather drawing air IN.

here's my reasoning:
under idle, or cruise, the manifold will see vacuum. because of the vacuum in the manifold, which hooks up to the BOV, the diaphragm will see vacuum and lift, opening the valve a little. in the intake tubes, there's still vacuum but not as much as in the manifold, meaning greater vacuum on the lift side of the BOV which means the valve opens a little, to outside air which is atmospheric, which is greater in pressure than the some vacuum inside the intake, thus some air comes in.

am i totally wrong on my thinking here?

Yeah, that's pretty much it. The little Mitsu turbo is the only one that creates boost at idle, but there is that instant when you open the throttle and the BOV isn't closed yet where there will be a small vacuum. Larger turbos won't boost at idle, so the BOV will suck air because it is the path of least resistance in the intake. This is even more true if the BOV is after the IC.

They can take in quite a bit of air. I'm using an HKS by-pass type ... it allows for recirculation (if you want) to the turbo inlet hose. Mine recirculates. If I take the lower hose off with the engine running, it'll suck fingers in. Doesn't shut till it senses boost.

okay, that's what i thought. i spent some time making sure my thinking was correct before i installed the BOV and filter. glad to see i wasn't totally off base :)
