What is the difference between a wire harness for an auto and a manual trans car? I need a harness for my '91 T1 auto and plan to use one from a 5spd. Will I have to patch in some wiring from the old harness or does the manual harness just have some unused connectors?

I believe only the sub harness changes, the one attached to the transmission. when i changed my 88 from auto to stick I just unplugged that sub harness and plugged in the 5 speed one.

Yup. NSS and reverse lights switch, TC lockup if you've got it, then there might be other accessories like cruise control, that won't hook up.
Bear in mind it won't start unless you hookup something for the NSS or equivalent switch, (Or be a naughty boy and jumper it)

The manual trans sub harness just has the NSS looped back to ground and has the reverse lights to the plug on the top of the case. Thats pretty much all the difference is.

I thought some had the NSS hooked to the clutch pedal?

i have only seen a few of our cars with the switch actually at the pedal. the majority of them have the yellow wire grounded. it's super easy to modify your existing wires for a manual transmission, or like somebody else mentioned just swap sub harnesses.

im talking about just the trans sub harness
IIRC there is one for the front of the motor and a separate one for the trans

Can I take the auto sub-harness from my old existing harness and graft it onto the manual harness easily?

It just plugs in, no surgery needed.
