Nice! There's a guy around Indy with an SRT swapped 1st gen...runs in the 12's pretty much stock....gutted interior though. You should come to Indy sometime and hang out!

Sweet Volvo! Is it an 850 Turbo?

Mopar318
05-27-2011, 07:10 AM
Yes. It a 97 850 GLT. 2.4 turbo with 200k miles. I bought it for 2k i need of a few things. Put on a wheel bearing, rear pads, and did a tune up all with genuine volvo parts...which are actuallly pretty darn cheap.

Squirtin the Neon with a garden hose wouldn't kill ya.

LOL J/K. Awesome cars! Like the intercooler setup on the Neon.

Ha ha, the neon was in the garage for almost 7 months while I did the swap. It got a rain wash yesterday. Bumper is back on, hood is cut so it closes, and the interior is all back together. More pictures of my intercooler setup in my project log. Its almost impossible for the intercooler pipes to blow off.

Thanks! I have a set of 2nd gen sxt wheels. I have a set of Khumo Ecsta 205/60/15's coming and they should be mounted by next week.

Here is a sneak of what those wheels look like. These are with the old tires. Im debating on the color to paint them. Satin black or gunmetal?

Warm weather today means I got my brake setup done and drove the car. There is a problem though, the Hawk pads are dragging in the front. I did not go far because I was going to break in the pads but at this rate they will be damaged before I get to do so.

Any ideas on why they would be dragging?

Also got a new deck lid. Car is really dirty since its been in the garage for 5 months.

Did you mis-match parts from different cars on the brakes? The pads may be designed for a thinner rotor.

Mopar318

No, calipers are from a PT cruiser. Rotors are NOS OEM pt cruiser, and pads are PT cruiser/SRT. They all use the same pads. The difference in PT N/A and SRT is the caliper and rotor.

They only drag after driving and making a couple of stops. I was able to break them in with 6-10 stops before they start to drag.

Fixed it. Went ahead and installed new calipers and removed the shims on the back of the pads for more clearance.

Braking is pretty intense. I am really happy with the way it turned out. Im looking forward to a braking contest at SDAC...if there has ever been one?

That's a good idea. It'll come down to the tires though...

Yeah, I could use some lower treadwear tires now. Before I could barely even get the tires to lock up. It is a whole other car now. The wheels dont lock easily but the hawk pads give tons of bite, so they tend to make you slow down quicker and quicker. with the same applied pedal pressure.

What spindle? Sounds like a good swap. Did you mess with the prop valve?
