I am wondering if anyone has replaced these fusible links with fuses. Like right now, I am trying to locate and check the ones on Mine. This car went down in Town and I had to get as tow dolly too bring it home (about 20 miles). If i would have had fuses in there, instead of those links, I could have solved my problem a lot easier. Thanks for looking. Bill

Bill, the fusible link blew for a reason. You have a short somewhere in the system. Make sure your check all your grounds for a proper connection or more then likely you have a damaged or exposed wire. Chrysler was so cheap in the 80's that all they did to make a "fusible link" was to smash/press the wire to make it thinner and thus more vulnerable at the point in the circuit. But it was done to protect the "more" expensive parts in the electronics system. Some guys just cut them out and replace with regular wire. This would just a make for a much more $ fix or possibly a fire hazard. So I would not suggest this DACF method. Yes this term is coined by me (Dumb --- Country F***), takes one to know one as they also say. Good luck.

You could be right, there could be an issue somewhere, BUT its a common issue later in life for these fusible links to break.

These fusible links are not just 'smashed wire', they are a purposely made 'slow blow' fuse. You can go to any auto parts store thats worth a darn and buy new fusible link wire in different ratings.

You can how ever replace a fusible link with a 'chip' style fuse. The one thing to keep in mind is what I said earlier, the fusible link is a slow blow fuse, so you can't swap a 25 amp fusible link for a 25 amp chip style fuse. A fusible link can take 25 amps for a period of time before it blows, while the chip style are a fast blow fuse. So to put in a chip style fuse you will need to put in a slightly larger fuse, like a 30 amp.

Some people have even taken the power distrubution center out of newer cars and wired it in place of the fusible links on our old cars with good success.

I used the power distribution center out of a Grand Cherokee on mine. Just look here for the fuse ratings:

I replace my fusible links with replicable fusible links.
