Swapping out the shortblock this week and plan on installing a '91 523 tranny along with it. The car is originally an auto car, so I'll be installing the pedals, clutch cable, shifter, shifter cables, etc.

I have a shifter and cables out of a '89 Daytona with a 520

1.) Will the shifter and cables work as they are or do I need to do anything to them? If so, what?

2.) What would be a decent clutch/pressure plate to install? I don't want to spend a lot of cash. Stock '86 shortblock with slightly ported head, T2 top end, stock T2 IC, +40's, 3-bar, 20ish psi.

3.) The axles out of the '89 G/520 car should work in the 523, right?

Thanks.

No, you will need the shifter, cables and cable bracket from a 523 car. The way the cables attach(and the attaching points) to the transmission are different. The shift pattern is also different. If you could get the 520 shifter to work there would be no reverse lockout feature. Which would allow you to shift from any forward gear directly into reverse.

The tried and true TII/TIII combo should work well and is moderately priced.

Yup, they should work just fine.

I helped do several trans swaps and conversions on a local '86 Turbo Z. 525-520-568-555; swapped all of them around and have learned just what it takes.

Thank you.

Well, I guess I'll use the 520 trans until I can dig up a 523 shifter.
