I am at a loss of words right now. I have 92r/t daytona. I am trying to set up the unequal length axles. The engine is pushed all the way to the drivers side according to engine mounts and i cannot fit the passenger axle. I measured it: 39.5" and almost 3/8" trimmed off for quaife. the drivers side axle if you push in on the shaft through the bearing has 1/2" push. the k-frame may need to be moved? I dont know how this happened, but it is killing me and axles

I just tried adjusting the k-frame and moved it over towards the passenger side about 1/16" not really a big help. Axle is back in, and i have to compression from the inner spring, it is pushed all the way in.

are you using the right axle?

I measured it up with the old equal length. granted it is starting to fall apart... they are the same length 39.5". One thing i just thought of is there supposed to be any gap from the inner cv joint to the tranny? Where the seal is? I think it is about 1/4". Unless there is something where i have to get the splines matched up perfect for it to slide in the quaife all the way. Axle is trimmed also for the diff. I must have gotten it in perfectly before?

1/4" gap between the trans housing and the CV joint housing sounds about right.

Ok, i was just checking on that. I have a cv from a 94 dynasty 3.3 auto. matched up splines and all. ive broken a passenger axle before, but it was equal lenght and the intermediate part survived, i swapped out cause it was showing signs of failure.

I'm pretty sure that the passenger axle for a K based car is 36.5". Sure you don't have a van axle?

You sure? I referenced rock auto for most chry cars and all axles where 39.5" except l-bodies and vans, vans were 41.5". Ill check again. I really hope it would be that, cause easy fix and i could recenter the engine again. thanks

Two things to think about....
1) Is the new shaft actually the correct length?
2) You are forgetting about the driver's side shaft. Maybe it is one from a van and too long, not the pass side one.

Well the drivers side is the stock axle, no problems with fitting. I think i am going to pull them both out and install the passenger side in first, then drivers. I believe the passenger side is correct, it is 39.5" long.

I agree it sounds like the right length. Just for verification, there is no damage to anything other than the pass axle?
Have you checked to see if the 2 axles are hitting each other inside the trans? You could smear a layer of grease on the pass axle and install it. Pull it out and see if they have touched. That is where I am at with it.

I take the 36.5 back...you're right, 39.5". Sorry if I created any confusion.

Something else worth looking at....double check you're getting some plunge in the inner CV joints. Sometimes a bad inner CV will not compress properly.

See if the axles are hitting eachother? I didnt think that was possible. Ill check, for somet reason the passenger axle seems as it is not centered right; as i mean whern i compress it, it always compresses on the lower side. I am going to get another axle from a jyard and see how that goes. Hopefully after this and i get my car running i wont have problems for awhile. Only occur on the odd months and carry over to the next

Unlike a GM, the axles come damn close to each other in the differential. That is the only reason I said it. The C/V joint issue that Pat mentioned is a good place to look. He knows more about these cars than I do.
