Ok, I'm getting tired of pulling the battery cable to reset codes - reprogramming a pioneer head unit is a PITA.

So the last few times I unplugged the SMEC... rather thank taking my 8mm out with me to do this again, can I cut the Red/White wire and put a toggle switch in there? Or is there another battery feed for the memory of the SMEC?

No ONE? Really?

Guess I'll try it and let everyone know how it works out.

A guy that drag races a...6 banger Bronco....swears that his truck is more consistant when he disconects the battery before every run......he put a switch in his cab to enable him to do this and was leading pts and making money doing it!!! He ended up down in third place by the end of the year. He didn't do it to reset codes, but it worked for him! Maybe no one else around here has done it....go for it.

There's a black bullet connector going to the ground post on the battery. Should be no more than 10" away. That's the dedicated ECU/engine ground. If you unplug that, it will reset the ECU without losing the radio memory...

You're the man Rob, thanks. One less splice in the harness

Rob, how long does the SMEC need unplugged? I disconnected it for about 3 minutes and the codes are all still there.

Usually, I unplug that, then turn the key on for 30 sec or so, then key off and re-connect it...

No luck - I cut the red/white wire (#41 I think) and installed a switch there.

old codes are gone
