Well i decided im going to just keep my 2.5 out the side. i know it will be louder then a full exhaust but im curious if i could make it a tad quieter and sound better then it is now.
my current setup is a 2.5 Strait DP into i guess a cherry bomb(was like this) and it exits out before drivers rear wheel. Pictured below is what i have. and i guess im just looking for a muffler that may quiet it a tad and sound better.

longer glasspack. ive seen em up to 40" cases and they're still dirt cheap.

There are various higher quality style of round case, steel mesh-packed mufflers out there. they CAN make a tremendous noise difference.

Every setup sounds different but get a large Oval Magnaflow or Ultraflo to help quieten it down, Walker Superturbo's work too.

Round Magnaflow's are quieter than the oval's although I don't know how they fit under the car there.

so u think a round will not fit in that same location? is there a specific round u recomend? i may go up to local performance part carrying shop tomorrow and take a look.

I really don't know if it'll fit up there or not. I use the 6" round that TU sells but it's mounted at the tail of the car. It's quieter than my friends Oval when we hung it off the end of the straight pipe. He put the Oval on his car and it's a bit louder than mine.

the section where mine is located atm seems to have alot of clearance.. how much larger can the muffler be? lol

This is a round magnaflow 3" pipe, dont know the case diameter, but it fits fine.

so u left it on with the glasspack? if so, how does that sound? and did it restrict performace much>?

Well going from a tiny exhaust system (almost the same as yours) to 3" is not going be a net loss of performance, hehe.

As for sound, i think they are about the same. I think idle is a bit louder with the 3". Idle and low load was actually pretty quiet with the smaller exhaust. On the highway just cruising you couldnt even hear it over normal road noise. I dont know now because the interior and insulation is stripped now and it always SEEMS loud hehe.

I found the opposite.

yeah idk bout the magnaflows, but with walker/dynomax the round ultraflow ones are NOTICEABLY louder then the oval super turbo ones....

I don't know what a glass pack sounds like, but here's a vid of my 3" turbo back side exit with a race bullet. It doesn't seem loud at all to me, but maybe thats just me?

still get the longest one you can fit. And then put it all the way toward the front or back so if you add a second one later you wont have to make extra cuts/welds. Like my exhaust with two butted together.

Better yet, use exhaust band type clamps, then no welding is needed and you can change at will with no cutting,

Well sure once the pipe is cut you can use a band clamp, but if you put a muffler in the very middle of that section and then want to move it forward or back to fit another one in line, you still have to cut. Putting it all the way to one end from the start would save a cut or two later.
