I'm going to need to replace axles on our 83 Rampage. Some sources say all L-body axles interchange until the spline size changes in 88. Rockauto and autozone both say the axles changed in April 1983. The date tag on the door can not be read so I don't know when the truck was made. The later ones are less expensive, but if they don't fit the price doesn't matter. What changed between the early and late axles? How can I tell which I need without the build date? I've done a bunch of searches trying to find a thread that may cover this subject without success. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
