I went back out there... got it running, but I still have the horid valve train noise.... I am going to throw in my tbi cam see what happens. In addition, I need an oil pressure gauge. My oil pressure rose up to 1/3 when cold and running. It then dropped to the bottom my the time it warmed up after 15 minutes... hmmm. There was oil splashing under the valve cover, so that is good.

If it ran without oil for a while, the lifters will be full of air, will take awhile to bleed out.

Glad you have it running. :thumb:

This happened to me before. After waiting and waiting for the clacking to go away, I decided to make oil pressure via the loud pedal. Hold revs up to around 3,000k a few times and clacking vanished.

The valvetrain on my hybrid clacked like crazy the first 15-30 seconds it ran (I did prime the oil pump but the lifters didn't pump up), then the clacking got a little quieter, set the timing after it was warm, checked for leaks. Went to the gas station about 6 blocks away, about 1/2 way there it quit making noise...As turbovanman said...Lifters may just have some air in them...

My project started for the first time in a few years too. Clanked like a mother as well. I think it's just from sitting. Hopefully they're right. ;)

Yeah I remember hearing some valve train noise for the first few times I started it up....(which i only let it run a few seconds the first few times) Noise has since went away
