Is it true that the CSX-T has the exact same engine (except for the Shelby valve cover and Mobil 1 sticker) that the Shadow ES has?? :confused2:

Im pretty sure the engine trans was straight outta the ES turbo. Standard 150hp/180tq 2.2T1 with A520 trans.

Uhmm yeah you was expecting maybe a custom billet crank stuffed forged block and pistons?

and no its 146hp and 170 tq, the 150 hp and 180tq was the 2.5t1 except the High Torque 91/92 2.5T1 with 150hp and 210 tq.

and 88 Shadow ES`s could infact now be more rare.

they were sold to a rental company right, doubt the renters even popped the hood to see the upgraded valve cover and sticker.

Well since the CSX and CSX-VNT had beefed up engines by Shelby, I though the CSX-T had a beefed up engine too, but I guess it was only looks and suspension/wheels/tires :(

They only way Mopar would honor the warranty for the CSX-Ts was to have motors stock, another then the valve cover changed. IIRC Shelby did the warranty work on the other numbered cars

I don't believe that is a correct statement. The 87's had stock TI motors which Shelby converted to TII. The 89's came with TII engines as a base for what Shelby did to them from what I understand.

Oh I see, so that way the CSX-T's could be sold to Thrifty and rented to the public, and beat the crap out of by the renters, and then fixed by Mopar while still under warranty..

Probably because Shelby wasn't interested in fixing cars that were rented out specifically to get the pi$$ beat out of them, just like the Shelby Hertz Mustangs back in the 60's that were regularly found wrapped around telephone poles... ;)

Why do you think they were beefed up? As far as I've ever heard, they were not. Cast pistons and all...

Well I'm just saying "beefed up", meaning what Cordes said previously:

Correct. They didn't have to do the blow through conversion in 88 so they could just use 100% stock motors except for the VC obviously.

Well I thought that cup holders were optional in the front storage box on the CSX-T's, mine doesn't have cup holders

I don't need cup holders anyway, My drinking helmet holds two beers so I can still steer/shift/smoke cigar/adjust radio/give middle finger to road rage drivers/ etc with my two free hands :banana-mario:

Cool, nice car. Are those real Shelby center caps? Those alone cost almost as much as my whole car did. (I found 4 real Shelby ones for sale for $110 each (x4= $440), and my whole car cost $500; I did not buy them)... :faint:

That is the problem with these cars. People by them cheap and then can't justify putting money in to them. I had that car listing for 1500 bucks and couldn't sell it. Oh well, it will be a nice car for the kid to drive.

I agree, they're not worth much, but personally I prefer the rare cars that aren't worth much, for my collection (that's all I can afford anyway):whip: Maybe someday they'll be worth something, so when I die and my kids drop my belongings like a hot potato, maybe they'll make enough money to go out to dinner at McDonalds :bounce:

How long have you had it? Does it have the cup holders? Shelby floormats? full leather or half leather/wood steering wheel?

Does it have the cup holders?

The "cup holders" in the base model 88 shadow (i.e. - the csxt interior) was a cheezy plastic insert that sat in the front of the center console - hardly a "real" cup holder...LOL! If you don't have one, and you want one, I may have one laying around in my storage area. It will be a while before I can get in there (buried in snow and I aint shoveling any more darn snow...LOL), but if you remind me in a month or so I'll look around for one for you.

Also, just to clarify Cordes motor explanation, only the 89 CSX-VNT had the full blown T2 bottom end. All other cars that came out of Whittier (86/87 GLHS, 87/88 CSX, 87 Lancer) had the T1 bottom end with the lightweight rods, cast crank and were non-common block motors. All Shelby did was pull the top end off the motors and replace it with T2 stuff.

It's pretty much as it reads in his post.

Shelby had to convert the 87' cars to blow through so he could use them with the TII rad/IC. The short block was dead stock TI from the factory.

88' was the first year of the blow through setup on TI cars. Thus the CSXT just needed the VC swapped for the Shelby one. It didn't require any other changes since it was already blow through and was not going to be intercooled.

In 89' the CSX VNT was made with an 89' T2 motor in it from the factory. The T2 motor was then converted to VNT. That is why the CSX VNTs came with T2 air boxes and modified SMEC harnesses to run the SBEC rather than with the factory 90' VNT stuff.

I hope that clears things up a little.

Yup, and it is minty fresh. I had planned on (years ago) gutting it out and building a "race car" out of it. But now, clean TM's are getting so hard to find Im not going to do it. It needs painted now, and a drivetrain but I am going to keep the body/interior pretty much stock. The only change I am going to make is to put a CSXT grill in it I have. I may paint both too, I can swap it back and forth.

Lol, I also do not understand the teenage girls and CSXT thing. For some reason, it seems every CSXT I see locally, is driven by a teenage girl. I think me and a buddy really creeped a girl out trying to get her to stop to check out her car years ago... lol

The guy I bought my CSX-T from sold it because he was going to give it to his daughter to drive but she wanted a car that had an airbag. Their loss was my gain. Even though the thrifty's were the least wanted of the shelby models, I dont see myself selling mine to anyone. Ever. I have put way too much money into it than I will ever get out, and it also has been really good to me. (Ie; no major break downs).

Geez, I wish my father bought me a Shelby when I was a kid :censored:.

My first car when I was 16 was 3/4 of a 1979 Toyota Corolla that I traded for $50 and a car stereo. I was driving it home and heard the brakes squealing, so I stopped and looked at the brake pads and saw there there were NO brake pads!!!! :banghead:

I bought an '88 Saleen with 31k miles on it two years ago from a guy that bought it for his high school-aged son. Well the son hated it because of the color, so the father bought him another car instead.... The Saleen is now up on blocks under soft snuggly blankets, all nice and warm in my collection, still with 31k original miles on it :cheer2::banana-mario::cheer2:

If you go 10mm, rolling your own is virtually a must. I've heard that there are more full power loads out there commercially now, but I haven't looked into it much. Any round which was turned down by the FBI due to women and girly men not being able to handle it sounds good to me.
