View Full Version : CSX-T #707 rebuild

Where to start? I bought this a few years back and finally started throwing wrenches at it. Got #707 for $300, but wound up costing that much more in fuel towing it back with the V-10 Dodge ram. It appears to have some damage in the front and rear, so i've decided to make this the "racer" of my collection.

I'll post more info on the engine later, here's a few pics for now.

A super tweaker tore the engine harness off the firewall a week prior to getting the new engine dropped in. I don't really have the time to do the job right, so the engine bay got a quick degreasing and sanding. After laying down some primer, i sprayed it with Dupli-color Engine Enamel w/Ceramic. Curious to see how the paint holds up.

oh i love the pbodies, Dupli-color stuff is surpizingly good in my experience. didnt wanna pull the harness eh? its not too bad, remove seat, steering column, kick panel unplug stuff. you might not even have to take out the steering column. its about the same amount of time it takes to mask off the wires.

car looks nice and solid. peace.

Yeah, i should have done this a long time ago. But i've decided to devote all my free time to wrenching on the whittier cars first and foremost.

Before: wtf chrysler, ran out of paint? going for an all organic rust effect?

After: Completely disassembled the shifter. Powder coated the white bracket, rest was painted with VHT Case Paint. And of course poly shifter bushings.

Just kidding!! Got that thing for cheap/free. Thought it would make for some funny pics at the very least. freakin thing is nearly as big as the tranny. probably turn it into a turbine engine and adapt it to the input shaft on the a520.

Cleaned up the starter harness. Used some neato Convoshield (http://cableorganizer.com/convoshield/) heat reflective loom and self fusing silicon tape to keep things as they should be.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v454/Shroom5150/GEDC0964.jpg

Sandblasted and powdercoated the brackets. Painted the calipers with the first high temp paint i could find. Then decided they were too shiny and blasted em with 1500* paint.

I want to use this filter and i thought about inserting two neodymium hard drive magnets to trap metal for further inspection. I tested my idea and found that having the magnets in the middle cavity is a bad thing cause it stuck to the hole and would have blocked the flow. So one magnet on each side in the outer cavity looks like it will present no problems with flow. What do you think??

If you've got a good neo magnet you should be able to put it on the outside of that case and still trap stuff.

Thanks!! I like your t-top!!! i also have a 568 and was thinking about the shifter length. any taller and it'd be the picture perfect car for Rat Fink to drive:lol: Mock GLH installed the quaife since i'm total newb. He works too fast, that's my excuse for not cleaning/painting the tranny.

Well, i thought about it, but the case is aluminum and would have had to fab up some hose clamps. Plus the cooling fins would prevent close contact unless turned sideways which would then minimize surface area. They dont slide down the outer chamber far enough to interfere with the holes/flow.

New fuel lines. Cool filter with a sintered bronze element to clean the fuel right before hitting the rail. Convoshield to keep stuff cool.

More whiteness!! Yeah, gonna be a nightmare keeping clean, but i had this hair up my a$$ to make things white for some reason. IIRC, the top bobble has "race" bushings. It's definitely far firmer than the other one.

MUHAHAhahahahah:wow1:
I do have a tore up go kart, so i was thinking of combining the two. Would be hella fun running at irwindale drag strip. I could probably store it at Mock_GLH's house since he's 2 minutes from Irwindale. And when he's not racing the Ugly Old Omni, he can race the Ugly Loud Kart. It's funny that most of the peeps making jet engines are using sissy sized turbos. This guy has one that looks close to the size of mine.
