View Full Version : Remving the front race without cutting it off ?

Other than cutting and cracking it off w/cold chisel like I've seen mentioned before is there any other way to get the pressed on front race off the intermediate shaft without destroying it ? I plan to replace both the race & bearing but I would also like to keep both the old race & bearing as a matched set should the need to use them down the road ever arise. I was thinking a propane torch to heat the race up while having a splitter tightened down around the base and having it ready to pull while heating up ?

The visualisation of it is a bit fuzzy here at the moment, but the opinion department is already suggesting playing with masonry tie rods such as are used with anchor plates..... probably either press it out or split the case in half around it. :D

Edit: Doh, never mind me, for some reason I was thinking of where it transfers power through to the final drive in the side of the case

Die grinder then chisel it off.

Got it removed... Good god that thing has a tight press fit.
It was RIP though :(
