My father-in-law is selling his Spirit R/T. He asked me to post it here for him.

I bought and rebuilt this car over the winter of 2008. It was originally a Virginia car, and I bought it from the 2nd owner in Columbus Ohio. It was a salvage title in Ohio as 2nd owner slid off the road and thru a fence. Insurance totaled it - he bought it back and repaired it, installed a sunroof, and had it painted (There is NO frame damage at all). It has a clear Michigan title now. The sunroof does not leak, and the install looks really good.

When I bought it, the head was off and the engine had been left open for months. The head is a Dunn - it was replaced under warranty (have the documentation for that also). The 2nd owner had been having problems keeping the head gasket on it. Turns out the deck was out ~0.004". So, I pulled the engine (bores were rusty at this point anyway), and had it honed/decked/hot tanked. The engine work was done by our race engine shop. The head had been decked and rebuilt by the previous owner and was (thankfully) bagged and boxed in the back seat when I bought the car. I put new rings and seals, etc. in the bottom end. The head got a new Mopar head gasket, the cams were reground by Delta to remove the pitting, and I re-assembled it. It's a 100% stock rebuild. Got a new clutch and TO bearing while the engine was out.

Right now, it probably has 15k on it since I rebuilt the engine. Recently, I replaced the front rotors and pads and wheel bearings. Last summer, I did the water pump (really should have done it while the engine was apart, but it looked OK).

It could use struts and shocks, tires look OK. Paint is decent, better than many you see. Though it does have a couple of spots peeling. The car is rust free underneath, the only rust on it is on the pass side front fender - which is an aftermarket replacement. It was replaced due to the mentioned fence damage. It has a 2-1/2" DP, no cat, single muffler at the rear. It's quiet inside, actually a very nice driving car. Interior is very clean, nothing broken. It does have a pillar pod with Autometer A/F and boost guages. Currently shows 146k on the odo, but it's barely moved in the year and a half my father-in-law has driven it. The speedo works fine, but the odo is intermittent.

My father-in-law has had both hips replaced and has a hard time clutching for his 30mile, mostly city commute. Also, he wants something he can maybe race some day. Like an automatic Shadow.

EDIT: $2600 is the bottom line. May also be interested in trades for a decent P-Body Coupe. CSX-T or something along those lines...

was this car sitting at a NAPA store in Columbus? Just curious.

I think it was a NAPA that I picked it up from. That would have been 3 years ago this month...

Bump, still available. The only offers have been from scammers. We're open to OBO offers, maybe partial trade for a P-Body in good condition.

Too bad he didn't want to try and race an auto G-body...

I've already got one of those. Besides, the P-Bodies are light and they came with every single engine combination Chrysler ever made - except for the T3 - so it makes a VERY good race car.

I could pay you $100 a month for 32 months if you stick that motor in to Matchbox...and keep the Spirit. Why would I want to ruin the perfect bracket racing car for though!

BUMP!!!!!!!!

how many miles are on the clutch and can you take a pic of under the hood with the motor in the car now.

ShelGame

The engine and clutch have about 15k on them.

I don't have any more pics with me, I do have a bunch on my PC at home. I'll post them later...

looks to be in damn good shape. the gap between the passenger door and finder looks to be off. does the finder just need to be realigned to fit right?

The pass side fender is a cheap non-Mopar replacement (by the PO). That's why it doesn't fit quite right, and probably why it's already rusty. What it really needs (to be right) is an original Mopar fender.

Car could use shocks/struts, too.

the core support is not tweaked at all, is the last set of pics before or after motor rebuild

After motor rebuilt. When I bought it, the head was off. The before pics were really nasty, the deck was all rusty. It's dirty because it was basically daily driven spring thru fall for the past 2 seasons. My father-in-law usually drives his truck in the winter. Better traction. I've driven it a little this winter (when my van was totalled until I got my Jeep). It's just been too damn cold to clean it up. It's no show winner, but it is a really nice condition R/T.

Core support is not tweaked. Nothing is tweaked anywhere at all. Front bumper, hood, headlights, etc. are all original. Only the fender has been replaced.

EDIT: Also, the air inlet snorkel and valley cover are in the trunk. The snorkel is broken in the usual mounting spot. The valley cover is the aluminum one, it's just not on.

Bump - so what's wrong with the car? Too $$$? Not nice enough?

I don't think its the price or the car, probably just the lack of disposable $ for most people nowadays.

I just bought Pat's car, and the wife picked our house so there's not much garage/driveway space, so i'm full up on space for cars. Would sure be fun to pair it with another white spirit R/T though. Best of luck with the sale. Maybe see if you can get it to SDAC, might be able to get someone to bite with it in front of their face.

does it burn/leak any oil or coolant? does it need anything done to it to be used as an everyday car? my DD is on its last leg and i'm half thinking about getting back into turbo dodges

Not at all. It's about to be used daily again with gas hitting $4/gal. It's much cheaper for my father-in-law to drive than his Hemi Ram.

If it was mine, I'd put shocks and struts on it soon. And probably lowering springs, but maybe that's just me :)
