My kid is going to be getting his drivers license soon and I'm looking for a vintage Mopar four banger for him to drive. I would rather he didn't have a turbo car so I can save some money insuring him.
A K-car or NA Charger would be best, but hey, he'll take what he can get.

Omni's and horizons were everywhere for almost free back in the day. They are hard to find around here now. Most are rustbuckets.

Why not a first gen neon? Just as cheap and they aren't bad to work on in my experience.

Or Acclaim/Spirit/Cirrus/Breeze/Stratus anyone would be a good 1st car. The cloud cars have the five star crash rating for the safety concious oarent.

It has to be able to haul a tuba.

The cirrus/ stratus 4 bangers tend to not live long once they get up in miles. Oil leaks and head issues.
I'm just fishing here to see if anyone has something like this for sale.

Tubas in the Moonlight? Great song by the BONZO DOG DO-DAH BAND! Back in the late '60s early '70s.

im sorry but an old school 2.2 2.5 has put me through way more trouble then my 97 stratus 2.4 did!!!
especially when it came to oil leaks!!

the problem is most people dont know how to maintain their vehicles, and they get rid of them when they start to cause troubles....leave it for the next owner....I drove my car for 3 years straight and the only thing i changed was a timing belt, front brake pads and 2 ball joints!

I had a cirrus with a 2.4. It's ws an experience I don't care to repeat.

I have a 2.4 stratus with 172,000 miles on it. Car has been great. I've never had any major problems with it. Have had to fix some trans fluid leaks. The 2.4 is a solid motor.

Insurance does not change from turbo to non,
it was a direct swap from a 90 ES 2.5 tbi auto to a 90 Shelby turbo 2.2 5 speed

Some insurance companies do charge differently depending on what drivetrain and trim level a car is. I know one of my old companies charged more for my Spirit Turbo than they did for my Acclaim TBI car.

A basic four banger is going to be the least expensive to insure.
I'm considering he Cirrus/Stratus/Breeze cloud cars now. Mostly because I'm being cheap. There are a ton for sale on CL for $2000 or less.

I heard they base it a lot on claims history, so if you get something like a GLHS, since the numbers were low, and not too many owners hit anything expensive or totalled them out, insurance is cheaper than you'd think...

if you want the cheap insurance that bad, get an N/A car and do a turb swap.
