View Full Version : What's a good a/f ratio for cold start?

I need to tune the cold start a/f on my NY. Anything below 60 degree's and it idles around 11:1 for 60 seconds or so. Anything under forty and it drops to 10:1 which I feel is too rich. Is it?

What should the a/f be when cold started? I was going to try to bump it up to 12-13:1. Is that too lean?

i thought people were shooting for 11.5 ball park
gets the cold loop out in 15 seconds (for smec)....unless its the 60 like u said? or is that the long looop...idfk...im new to this tuning shiiiit

It should be around 12:1, it can be richer but then your wasting fuel. Mine is 10:1 due to the cams for roughly a few mintues while driving, then goes up to 12, then 13 then 14 of course.

According to the tbl file it's 60 seconds when cold and 10s when hot which seems to be how it works when I start the car. So 11.5-12.0:1 ??? I know people shoot for that when setting the WOT/boost a/f ratio but haven't seen anything when the car is cold.

My cars usually do the best when they are at 11 or 12:1 when it's in the 30s or below outside. They need a lot of fuel to run when it's that cold.

could someone tell me the tables to adjust for this?, mine is at 9.5 and has a hard time staying running at anything under 35*,
i was going to ask this question then saw this thread

I think Rob may have posted the flow charts for this in the cals section? If you look there are some cold enrichment tables that you may need to adjust.

its not due to your cams......its due to your TUNE!!! man dont u play with that ostrich at all?? for a DAILY DRIVER van you do seem to have alot of tuning issues :p

you need to make sure the pumping efficiency table is PERFECT before you start tuning anything else.

the a,b, c curves are what you adjust and you tune the b curve first after a few min of operation.

I really wish they had the smiley face button on the quick reply deal. I was suggesting the proper effect in this case rather than affect.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try that now ;)

Sweet it worked.

You might try adjusting your base timing Simon, that can affect the vacuum. Or increase the timing under heavy vacuum.
