So me and my dad have finally started on my srt omni swap. I picked up the car as a half way project about 2 years ago now from jessie (jrbexhaust) gotta give him credit for the awesome paint and interior work that he's done to the car and the idea for the swap!

Basics---
Stock 05 SRT4 - wiring up a megasquirt II
568 Trans obx lsd
centerforce clutch

We are in the process of getting it to sit in there nice and straight and aligning the axles to the hubs the best we can. its a great setup and i hope some of the info and pics will be useful for others as well!

Oh and thanks dad! this project wouldn't be possible without your great fabrication skills!

Here's where we're at:D

Looks good so far. Can we get some more pictures of the outside of the car? Also, might I suggest giving the front of the radiator support a fresh coat of paint while you have it all torn apart?

Somewhere my friend has a video of me racing this car with my Laser back when it was still a TI. I think that was at least 2 owners ago.

Its kind of hard to tell from the pictures, but are you going to be running AC on this car? From the pictures it look like you have the rear mounted alt, the front bottom mounted AC compressor, and the front top mounted power steering pump. Is that all correct?

http://i708.photobucket.com/albums/ww84/mellonhead228/Picture046.jpg

Its kind of hard to tell exactly how much has been trimmed judging by this picture, do you have a top angle? From what I understand, the bracing that goes in the front corners of the engine bay is specific to the GLH cars and is part of what makes these cars handle so well because it stiffens everything up. Do you have some more pictures of this area?

Nice work, is there enough clearance to the 568 with the stock SRT intake manifold/Throttlebody? or is that manifold slightly modified?

Yes that is the pulley setup, we did remove the front brace that mounts into the corner to fit in the AC compressor but my pops plans on welding in some plate steel to keep the corner stiff.

Ill try to get some better pics of the engine bay so you guys can have a better idea of how it all sits in there, and the individual mounts when they are completely finished before they are painted (still have some tweaking to do) Ill take some pictures of the outside of the car once its off of the jack stands

The manifold is stock and it does clear the trans with the throttle body on BUT, It really can't be used as is though, its way to far forward to try and mount a radiator/fan setup

Well it certainly looks like it fits well without that brace. When I do my 2.4 swap I might have to do the same. I definitely agree with adding some sort of bracing back into that location. I am anxious to see how you get the a/c lines and the condensor to fit up front. What are your plans for the radiator and intercooler?

This is my new favorite thread:love: Based on your post count I'd say welcome to TM.com but I see you have been lurking here since '09 and getting smart, very smart:eyebrows: Great project and I can tell that you and dad have some fab skils.

Now, how about carrying over the gold GLH them and painting the SRT valve cover to match;) Just an idea, keep those pics coming.

Fine Alan! :(

This should be a good thread. I am also waiting to see how your gonna mount the A/C and intake and radiator in the front of that car and still have it look nice! Coming from someone with experience, I know it will be...........interesting.

We're going to take some measurements and have a local radiator shop see what they can find for us, that and a condensor. As for an intercooler im not sure yet, will see how the radiator and condensor are going to fit first.

In the past couple of days me an my pops redid the side motor mount, got a shifter from a shadow tacked in, shift and clutch cables in and an axle in the drivers side. Problem is, we can't get it into gear and when we spin the hub, it seems like its bound up on something, it spins but its pretty tight. So until we go any further were kinda stumped on that right now. Any ideas?? The trans was rebuilt by cliff ramsdell i believe

Do the SRT guys have anything good to say about CenterForce clutches for that trans? I've not had good luck with them in years past, could be a whole nuther ballgame these days tho. I sure hope so:D

Awesome work. Really nice.

Thoughts on the cooling system. Would a Neon radiator fit inside the radiator support?

I know the 2nd Gen Neons have a rad/condensor assembly that is fairly compact. And the fans are pretty low-profile too.

Any idea is that is the exterior paint is the factory gold color? Maybe its the pictures, but it looks a little on the tan side to me.

Wont even fit in a Neon, so I doubt it would fit in an Omni. Unless the 2nd gen ones are REALLY compact.

I had a 2nd Gen Neon ACR I parted out. It had a single cooling fan that was very very slim. It also had a very well designed shroud with flaps that would open up at speed to allow air to bypass the fan.

I don't know this for sure, but you might be able to tuck it INSIDE the radiator support, like Carroll did with his rad on his GLHT R/T.

Hey, Did you make patterns or fixtures to make up those mounts? Any interest in making at least one more set?

Thanks,

Basically what we did was hung the motor and trans in the engine bay took some measurements to make sure it was straight and level and my dad made some mounts. as for making another set... i can definitely ask!

Is that an off the shelf/out of the yard radiator... Or was that a custom built deal?

That's my former car. I sold it to Tim. He done a lot of stuff. The interior was my thing. The two-tone was something I thought would look very good with that color. I hope it's on the road soon.
