I'm rebuilding my father in laws 89 toyota pickup for him. He said it's a shame there aren't many performance upgrades for the 22re.Turbocharging was brought up and I was looking at a pile of old mitsues. I found a site that had a step by step header build although instead of equal length I'm going to do A log style manifold for the simplicity of it. To me the plumbing and fabrication is the easy part and he's only wanting to run 5-7psi so no major internal engine mods are necessary. It's a mass air sensor computer setup. Do you put the mass air sensor between the turbo and intake or do you put it on the suction side of the turbo?

I believe it would go on the suction side before the turbo.
Check out this wesite they have lots of great info http://lcengineering.com/

You do know that they were factory turboed toyota truck, right? I'd suggest you find their forum and ask tons of questions there.

Yeah I know and I've done alot of research. It seems to get taboo when you go asking about turboing a n/a motor. I know the original turbo blocks had a reverse flow oiling system. I found some good info here http://turbonation.com/header.htm They also have some stuff about our cars on here as well. Not to mention a picture of the smp car on their home page.

I had the same problem when I put a turbo system on my '88 Volvo 240. I found a real nice 240 turbo and got all the turbo stuff off of the car. I put it all on my car and proceeded to ask questions on a Volvo forum for the older turbo stuff. They all told me I *HAD* to have the ECU or it wouldn't work.

So I installed a g-valve, and a Cartech rising rate regulator and called it a day. I was careful (self-controlled with boost) and never had any problems.

My dad had a Toyota pick-up we were going to turbocharge before it was totalled in an accident.

My bro now has an '85 extra cab pick-up we are going to turbo...I'm just going to use the knowledge I've picked up in turboDodge and use it there. Conservative approach and we'll be good to go.

You can get the 22RET turbo manifold sometimes on eBay and use that...only problem is turbo placement is poor. I still have one. :thumb:
