View Full Version : Opinions Wanted. I Want to Clone My Rampage to a Scamp GT.

Hi folks! I have an 83 Rampage 4 speed with a/c and I want to change the color from beige to black and clone it to the Scamp GT. No vin swaps or anything I just like the grill and stripes on the Scamp better. I had an 83 Turismo I bought new that looked exactly like the Scamp GT with the stripes and everything, another reason, want to relive my youth.:eyebrows:
I have a donor Scamp GT that is a rust bucket but I got most of the black interior parts, the grill off and the hood w/scoop.
What ya think?

if you need any extra seats like the ones in the scamp there is a set in a rampage up here by me i could get fairly cheap

I say do it. The black with red strip looks sweet on a rampage or scamp

Hmmm, the seats in the Scamp are a little scary, there were mice everywhere although they were still pretty clean looking. I was going to pull them but decided not to. I wonder what shipping would be from Michigan to PA?
I'll pm you, are you going to Chrysler Carlisle?

Rosco

Ok, I'll throw something else in the mix!
I also have a Shelby Grill, use the Scamp grill or the Shelby grill?
I won't say which I like better but..........:p

This nose with the hood scoop, not the turbo hood.

Thanks. I talked to Kent at Fastline Graphix today and he said I can get the Scamp stripes in any color I want!:banghead: I guess the red/orange will look best with a black truck though.

Scamp It!! with the Shelby grill :)

Be different, go all Scamp. A friend has a Scamp and put the Shelby spoiler on with the scamp grille. When I started Shelbyizing my Rampage I had the 2.2 scoop and just put the Shelby nose on and it looked great. If I had known then just how many people did the whole Shelby thing on the Rampage I would have just left it alone. I only have some 35mm pics and maybe I can get my old scanner working again so you can see the look. Don't get me wrong, I love the Shelby Rampage look, hated the 82 Dodge nose, just would like to be different. I'm more of an 84 style fan w/the 2.2 spoiler like my old one was just before it's death.

Rosco
06-28-2006, 09:01 PM
I like the Scamp nose better too plus part of my reasoning was my Turismo 2.2.
I was also thinking of going stealth, meaning no Scamp stickers just the GT stickers with the Scamp nose. No Dodge or Plymouth emblems, keep em guessing.

Hey Russ, I see you found your way over from Moparts haha. I think that's a pretty cool idea to "Scamp" your Rampage. The 'Page is soooo clean though, I don't think I'd be able to tear it apart :p

Well the Rampage has some rust around the windshield and I think the floors too so it will be going in the bodyshop anyway, now's the time I guess.:D

If your not gonna badge it as a Scamp what's the point. Not too many people will even notice, unless they're Rampage nuts. It is such a subtle diffence w/o the Plymouth and Scamp badging.

Rosco
06-28-2006, 10:41 PM
That's true. Even now people walk around the back to see what it is as Rampage is only on the tailgate. I always hear, I've never seen one of those or I haven't seen one in ages.:thumb:

Yeah, I get more comments when I drive my page then in my Shelby. I'm reliving, not my youth, but 10 years ago. Back then I had an 84 page and an 87 Charger, now I have an 82 page and an 87 Shelby Charger. My page says SHELBY RAMPAGE on the side, similar to the SHELBY on the Charger and still no one knows what it is. I'd get some pics of my friends Scamp, but he has it apart right now getting ready for paint. As soon as he's done I'll get one or two. He's painting it yellow with a bumble bee stripe and flat black hood, no PLYMOUTH or SCAMP at all on it. Has the stock nose and Shelby spoiler and hood, but best of all a Daytona Turbo motor.

Niice! So do you have the supercharger setup already?? My brother has a brand new NOS Direct Connection supercharger kit we were going to use on his Turismo, but it's looking likely that we'll never do that. If you're interested I'm goin to have it at Carlisle trying to sell it this year.

Do BOTH! be the first guy with a Supercharged Turbo motor! it can be done, it has been done on other vehicles, and it is effective! and boy would it be sweet!!

I would clone it ONLY if I could buy the spare parts to put it back to the way it was. For example, if the hood has to be cut - I'd have a spare one handy.
The Rampage is nice enough in it's own right. A Scamp GT might be a novelty for a while. Good Luck.

By the way, the engine compartment is nicely done with the DC valve cover and red timing belt covers.

I agree with Clay. That Rampage is way tooo clean to change anything. The brown color is distinctive and different. The black one on here is really nice too but I'd leave the brown one alone. It's tooo clean.

where did you find the super charger kit please tell ive been looking for one for my rampage it orginaly came with one

Hi guys, sorry for the long absence.:p
Well the body is done except under the hood, still haven't finished the drivetrain although I have everything to put the 2.2 cb with the blower together and a 523 trans. I also have an SRT4 motor and trans which I might change out at a later date for even more hp but I want to put the blower motor in for a while to see how she runs.
I changed the color to black, had floor pans put in, the window well work and the Scamp front bumper and interior. Here it is with the headlight blackouts installed. I have a few extra sets if anybody is interested. I just used velcro on the inside and they come right off for night driving. I put 4 lug powder coated pizza wheels on for now until I go 5 lug then I'll probably go 17".
I also want to lower it some or find some side skirts as it looks like a 4wd.
Still deciding on stripes or just pinstriping. :confused2:

Nice work Rosco!:thumb: You know, you coulda put up pics of the pans being replaced and other aspects of the build, we're always ready to give expert advice on stuff like that:D

It is pretty high though, I did the axle flip in the rear but found that it was too low then, so I brought it back up with an airbag rear. Fronts are going to be coil overs with threaded collars so they will be easy to get the stance where I want it. Keep those pics coming!

That brings back memories. I had a Scamp GT, with a little smaller scoop. Mine was black with the red/orange stripes. I bought it with 11k miles on it. Mine had the 2 pc. abs rear cover, and the D.C. computer on it when I bought it. I ported a G head, milled it .030, installed a 767 cam with D.C. springs and a full length 1 1/2" hooker header with 2 1/4" exhaust and it was a BLAST to drive. The full length header was what it really needed to really rev and pull hard up to 6500 ish. The thing would pull down 28.6 mpg almost every tank. If I had that and my 70 Cuda back, I would be a real happy man.

On a side note, if anybody wants to black out their headlights I have several sets of the plastic covers for them. It was cheaper to get several sets made when I had them done. I just use velcro to take them off at dark.

At one point I was considering the Shelby ground effects too. I even considered using the factory GT stripes with the ground effects. In the end, I decided I wanted the truck I thought Plymouth should have built in 83. That's how I ended up where it's at.

Thanks for the compliment. Tinting isn't nearly as hard as some folks think it is. I did mine myself. It's 20% all around.
