Ok, dumb question time. i see everyone saying that a .48 housing is good for a street car, but a cork at higher HP levels. and a .63 is laggy but will pump out
horsepower. here's my question then, does anyone make a .55 sized housing?

No, not for a t3

what is this turbo lag you speak of?

I call it fore-play.

There's a thread about a stage 3 wheel in a .48 housing floating around here somewhere. From what I remember reading, it worked pretty good as a compromise.

it just seemed that a .55 housing(or somewhere in that area) would be a decent compromise

I'd say you're right, but to my knowledge it doesn't exist with a Chrysler flange (maybe not at all). The only ones I know of for the t3 are the .48, the .63, and the .82 (ford). These are what our vendors sell.
It's a neat idea, and if a .55 housing existed, I'd bet a few people would be running one. I still think the .48/stage3 combo is an interesting option to get a compromise with available parts.

How would a S3 wheel fit in a .48 housing? That's quite huge.

I'm curious to see how my 50 trim (B style) with a S2 wheel in a .63 housing will spool with the stock head. Certainly a .55 S3 would be idealy great.

The S3 wheel takes up a lot of the .48 housing. It is just machined to accept the wheel.

i won't disagree with you there, it does look like a very good street turbo.
couple this with a 2.5, and you'd never keep it hooked up:D

That's my plan if I ever get this house finished so I can get back to work and make some money. I'm going to try a 57 trim .50 a/r cold side with a
stage 3 .48 a/r hot side on a 2.5. You can pick these turbos up all day on ebay for next to nothing but they have the standard garrett flange on the turbine housing, so I figured I'd get a .48 Chrysler housing machined to take the stage 3 turbine and see how it works.

would it be any easier to use a manifold with a standard flange?
i don't know what you're running

word on the street is a .63 hot side with a 2.5L the lag is very acceptable

what motor are you runnning?? My stock headed 2.5 spools a S60 turbo by 2400rpms in 5th gear. Spools faster than my MP plus turbo.

how? the intake side has a larger wheel, thus heavier... are you sure it just wasnt the wastegate bleeding off boost when you had the plus unit?

yes the wastegate is fine. All I can think of is that the bigger wheel creates more airflow sooner and so in turn makes more boost earlier. Don't know why but I like how it spools like a mitsu but still has great top end :)

I could I guess. I already have a manifold that's been drilled and tapped to accept a turbo with the standard flange. The thing I'm thinking about is that the 57 trim t4 compressor is going to spool pretty slow even with the .48 housing. I'd imagine the .63 that comes on the turbo would make matters even worse.

I hope to be having some fun with mine soon. its a garrett T2 with a .63 hot side, TU quick spool option, large can wastegate, and CUSTOM 3.5'' (that isnt a typo) swingvalve, all through a ported TBI header. I think it should have a pretty good power range.
