View Full Version : $99. Introductory Price! L-Body 3" Cat Back Exhaust System Kits

Chris W
06-27-2006, 05:31 PM
No one likes the unexpected expense of exhaust shop modifications for a kit that should be a "Bolt-In" out of the box. Our goal at TU was to make these kits easy enough for anyone to install with just basic tools. Rather then duplicating existing 3" Aluminized cat back kits on the market we chose to start from scratch with our own designs to provide a Tru-Fit exhaust. The pipes included in these kits are aluminized and mandrel bent. Our L-Body versions will be ready to ship once we return from Carlisle and SDAC.

We are offering these kits at an introductory price of $99. each. We hope to have samples with us at Chryslers at Carlisle next week and SDAC in Topeka.

Look forward to more great deals on 3" Mandrel bent cat back systems as we expand our exhaust inventory to include all of the popular T-D vehicles.

Thanks for your continued support!

Motor is ready to drop in. Suspension and brake components are ready. Just waiting for the temp to drop a bit (been over 100* for several days....yeah I know big wup to you in Sun City :D ) I'm a wus. It should be running this weekend and aligned on Monday or Tuesday. Hope that tranny holds a while while I save some cash and order a 555 Cliff R. hybrid with all the trimmings. I'll bring it out in a couple weeks and stop by. I want to get in a run or two on Chris' dyno :thumb: if it's ready. He said they had dropped it off Friday and were in the process of installing it.
When it's done I'll post up what all was done. I have a new parts list thats a page and 3/4 long :eyebrows: . Nothing real special, but It's going to be solid and reliable.

I was going to do the same thing, but figure it'll cost you $60 for the 3" builder kit, so for an extra $40 someone has already put it together for you. Thats alot of labor and frustration saved for $40!

They will not be included with the mandrel bent pipes at that introductory price, but, the hangers and mufflers will be offered as an option. Since some customers may already have those items it would be redundant to include them in with the kit. Offering those items separate will help keep the cost of the exhaust pipes lower. :thumb:

Clay,

The first sample we received required some tweaking so we sent it back to our vendor and requested the necessary changes. Squeezing the large exhaust into the small L-Body is quite a challenge. We expect our second sample this week and we will follow up with our test results.

I was informed by my supplier that the L-Body kits are ready to pick up. They will be up on our website very soon. We are still working with our supplier to keep our costs lower by exchanging dyno time for a bigger discount. Since nothing has been set in stone as of yet we are only going to be offering a limited amount of kits at $99. each. Andy can confirm that these L-Body kits were designed extremely well to simplify installation and to reduce the chance of contact with the undercarriage. Andy, could you re-post those pics you took?

G-Body kits are in the works and we will obtain a status report when we pick up the L-Body kits.

Got the exhaust on and welded up yesterday. I was really impressed with the fitment, I was fully prepared to have to do some modifications on it to make it fit well and didn't have to touch it. I'd heard stories about some of the other kits out there having to be hacked up and reweld to fit right, and thats definitally not the case. I didn't even need to move the tank over where the exhaust passes over the axle, just wrapped it with some exhaust insulation tape and its good to go. And all the stock hangers fit with no problem. Even with fabricating a downpipe and installing a muffler with a hanger it still only took me about 4 hours to get it in and tested. Good stuff!

I welded everything up, except where the two cat-back pieces meet. This way I can pull the rear piece with the muffer completely out if need be later down the road. I bought a magnaflow 3" stainless muffler and it definitally sounds nice, pretty mellow at idle and cruising, but you can definitally hear it when you get into it. Passed a county sheriff last night doing about 45 and he didn't even raise his head to look at me.

Looks GOOD! Thanks for the pics! I just have a couple of quick questions for ya.

I. How much room do you have to "make up" between the down pipe, and the start of the exhaust?

II. Is the room between the downpipe and the exhaust to put a muffler?

III. How far out the back does the exhaust go?? I mean would someone have to add a piece of pipe to get it out the back of the car? I would probably just put a turn down on it, but just trying to figure out what I need before I get mine.

thanks!
clay

altered7151
10-10-2006, 09:36 PM
I. If you look at the 4th picture you can see a weld right in front of the hangar, thats where the cat-back piece starts, I fabbed everything forward of that.
Its a good 3' at between the downpipe and the cat-back. I have a custom downpipe and bend to get it in the middle of the car, and it was 29" from the cat-back to my downpipe, If you get a 4' piece of tubing you should be fine, might want to measure and double check though.

II. Tons of room, especially if you aren't running a cat. A bullet or round muffler would fit nicely

III. You wont have to add any pipe to get it out the back of the car. I whacked off a pretty good size piece when I put the muffler on. If I remember correctly, you'll probably actually end up taking some off because it ran past the bumper pretty far and looked goofy. So there's plenty of room there to do what you want.

Frank

Ya Magnaflows sound awesome!! Seems like the main pipe sits a little low. Are you running a TBI manifold or something that would cause that?

Ya Magnaflows sound awesome!! Seems like the main pipe sits a little low. Are you running a TBI manifold or something that would cause that?

Actually I bought the Magnaflow on your recommendation Frank, I searched some of the old threads and your posts kept popping up about them, and I agree is sounds great. The Pipe is just a tad lower than stock, I have a custom 3" stainless swingvalve off of a ford .63 exhaust housing. Its really not all that low, the pictures just make it look that way. I jacked the --- end way up in the air to get some pictures, so the angle makes it look really low.

Clay
10-11-2006, 09:54 AM

Im pretty sure being a cat back this system wont come close to the rod shifter and linkage. BUT what ever you have there (next to the rod shifter) may, so its up to you to make sure its out of the way.

Anybody installed one of these on a 4 door yet? I'm having trouble with alignment on the rear section, it either wants to hit the tank, or the frame, or be completely out of alignment with the cutout in the rear valance. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Mike,

Call me at 602-762-6678 so I can provide some assistance.

Glad you figured it out. :thumb:

L-Body 4 doors may require a little massaging to make fit. I get a kick out of those exhaust shops that tell you 3" can't be done in an Omni. :D

I realize this is for a turbo car, but since it's Cat back, would it work in an N/A?

Yup! All I had to do was cut the exhaust just before the last bend before the muffler, rotate it about 10degrees and reweld it. Fits like a jem now.

Chris,

Do you still sell these systems?
I haven't seen them on your site.
