where can I get a set of shifter pads for the 1st & 2nd fork.
I have lots of pads but none fit.(Black and white ones) I'll even take a good used set.

any luck? is there a place to buy new ones?
I have a rebuild kit from drivetrain that has pads for 5th gear fork and 3rd & 4th fork and not the right ones for the 1st & 2nd fork. also there intermediate shaft case bearing was wrong. Is there a good source to get complete rebuild kits for the A555? I need atleast one more kit now.
Thanks

These have been unavailiable for years now. If yours dont look too bad you can reuse them. I thought about having the forks slighly ground to make the black ones fit but I ended up using old ones last time.

If there's nothing left to use, chances are the shift fork is bent. I had this happen on my a-555 for the 3-4 fork. Mopar doesn't have the 1-2 pads any more.

I'm in the same boat. I have an 89 a555 but with an 87 a555 transmission. What are the differents in the color of these pads. My 1-2 shift pads wore out to where there is nothing on them. I know the 3-4 and 5 are black and are of a rectangular shape with squared edges. I heard somewhere that the older a555 had u- shaped pads. The dealer has white pads are these the ones for the 87 or 89?

I have a 520 rebuild kit bought from AllTrans in Greenville about 3-4 years ago, looks to have all new pads in it.

I'll buy the kit from you if it has all the right stuff. What color Shifter pads are in the kit?

Don't really want to sell it, as I need it for the trans that's in my Daytona right now. However, here is the website for the place mine came from:

http://www.alltransparts.com/

They may still sell the same kit. When I called about some 543 gears and synchros last year they were pretty sure they had them, so they still seem to have some parts for our cars.

I wonder if a machine shop could reproduce those out of aluminum or something? Brass or bronze maybe?

There was a big discussion about these in BAP's project log, brass didnt seem to work very well.

Really? Wonder why? Guess I should go read that thread really lol.

It was pointed out there may have been other issues that were causing the pad to bind and wear out very quickly.

I would be happy with a good stock replacement option. The oem pads seem to last fine if your not intentionally abusing and pounding the hell out of the transmission.

That thread is too long, I'm not reading it :p

What was the issue w/ brass pads? Wore too quick? Wonder if they could be coated w/ something to slow it down? Some sort of Teflon or nylon coating perhaps?

Having just re-replaced the 1-2 pads and re-re-replaced the 3-4 pads in my A568, I'd like to give this piece of advice: if you drove the car with broken pads, replace the forks as well. With the pads missing, the slider carves a groove into the fork itself. This groove becomes a stress point for the pad and the new pad cracks.

New pads are getting very hard to find...don't waste them on a questionable fork.

I'm kinda scared to open up my 255k 523 and see whats left inside :o Yesterday I went to drive it and couldnt get it into gear, even after 15 minutes of warming up. Took the truck instead

According to the 87 parts book the 520/555 1-2 fork uses the same black fork pads as the 3-4 & 5 forks ? Is there any truth to that ?

BadAssPerformance

520/555 uses the grey ones which are identical to the black ones except the u-channel is wider to accomodate the thicker 1-2 fork.

The 1-2 pads in my T2 Shadow are black ones I machined wider to fit the 1-2 fork.

I just got a shipment of NOS and some good used parts for the early transmissions including new shift fork pads, new and used intermdiate shafts, some new brass syncro rings, and all sorts of gears. I'm not an trans expert, I leave that up to Cliff, but if someone could help me identify the parts so I can sell them off to needy trans owners, that would be great! and maybe that would help some of you guys trying to rebuild a trans
Thanks
Cindy

Any part numbers and pictures would be the best way.

yes, post up some pics of the parts, it would help on both sides to see what you have for sale and also help you identify it all.
