Been tinkering with this damn thing and havnt gotten anywhere. Alternator is putting out nothing and its running entirely off the battery.

New voltage regulator made no difference. Tested out every circuit for continuity and the key on +12 volts to the exciter wire and VR, all was good. Alternator is grounded directly to the VR and the VR is directly grounded to the battery.

Even made a new harness to bypass all the factory garbage, just in case there was a bad intermittent splice, zero difference. :(

This is the 5th or 6th rebuild from pepboys (lifetime warrenty ), they last a couple years before going to crap. This most recent alternator doesnt even have any road time on it! (van has been layed up for other issues) and when bench tested it worked. Installed and now its deader than dead :confused2:

Just run the alt by itself to test, have it running, put one field terminal to power, the other to ground, if the alt lights up like a Xmas tree, its fine, if dead, then its dead, :p

Rebuild the alt yourself, check the stator, its its ok, buy a rebuild kit, simple and fast to do.

Yup. Tried that and nothing... :eyebrows:

Might have found a better fix http://www.arengineering.com/instructsheet/instruct.html

Fixing your alt with Wilwood brakes?

I think I have those calipers for sale. :eyebrows:

Putting a denso alternator on an LA engine

Only problem is the Van has A/C and the dual V belt setup.

Rotor windings were broken.

If I was still driving my 75 B250, I'd be all over that,

Rotor windings were broken.

So what are you going to do?

Taking it back to pepboys tomorrow morning and collect on the lifetime warrenty again. Called the store and verified they do have one in stock, I just hope its not like last time and the wrong alternator was in the box... Discovered a real flaw in pepboys inventory/ordering system and what a royal PITA is was to just get this (currently bad) part back in april.
