My 1992 Dodge 3/4 ton (diesel/auto) is needing new tires soon.
I have had Coopers and they have been great and long lasting.
NOW going to need heavy duty tires to use while hauling the 2900 pound camper. 10 ply I'd guess. I have 17" aluminum wheels.

Any recommendations?

I don't know if they make them in that size or load rating but we just put Pirelli Scorpion ATR's on our liberty and just barely wore through the molding nubbies before the snow hit. Initial views on them in the dry aren't very conclusive but they felt like they were going to be pretty good at cornering and they tracked very straight. In the snow. OMG they're awesome. Almost too good as I like to 4wd drift it around corners. It has to be really really slick or I have to be very aggressive with the throttle to do so. The reviews on Tire Rack were really positive with some really long lasting mileage claims.

I wanted to do BFG's as well but for the price we went with the Scorp's. I'd like to try the BFG's for a comparo purpose but I'd bet they'd be pretty similar with a edge to the Scorps in dry traction IMO.

Damn what size?? That's a smoking deal. It was $610 for just the tires. The BFG's were gonna be close to 700.

265's 17". Oh it was a hook up. My friend was a manager at a tire shop. I'll even never get a deal that good again. LOL

The BFG's are what I had too. If I get another truck, they'll go on it, also.

The tire store I go to suggested the BFG truck tires, too.
I just wasn't sure.

Right now I have 33x12.50R17 size on it.

We've had Cummins for years @ work and the only tires we've had luck with that don't wear all f-ed up are the stock Michelin's.

My Coopers lated 55k miles, have been great in dry and snow.
But they are only load range "D" and I would like to go with "E".

I was told Hancook DynaPro ATM were good, but they do not make them in 17 inch.

Load range E all terrains. The 285/70 is the conversion size into metric.

Yes, those look like the ones I am going to get. Got to save up though, kind of spendy.

True, but I have never bought cheap load range E tires...don't trust them.

Agreed, but seems like there are a lot of good tires out there. I like the fact they are USA made, at least thats what the web site said.

Has anyone here run the Firestone Transforce A/Ts? I have heard very good things about snow traction and wear for them. I will be getting a set here soon for my truck.

a lot of people don't run the right air pressure. You have to change the pressure based on what you are hauling or the tires won't run right and wear funny. Not saying that is the case for you just saying some people that get funny wear that maybe related.

Someone went cheap with the D's. I can't see a 2500 calling for D's.

them's are the ones i put on truck i loving them tow nice , and they are out preforming my expectation's on snow and wet ice right now i have way more grip then my last tires on the dry too.

I just came from Michelin's and found them to hard i could read the date on a dime with them. and i would have to chain up in the same conditions i driving right now in just to get out of my drive way and that was with 4x4 ingagaed now im going places in 2wd no problem.

I have to agree on that.I had 2 sets on my truck and both have worn nice and flat.I went to the Bridgestone Duravis M700 and they are wearing like crap with only 5k on them.

I have the BFG A/T on my truck. $710 installed at Costco. They are D's, though...as I think that's the only load range the 33x12.5s come in.

I love all of the BFGs that I have had, but if you can find and afford the Michelin LTX M/S in the size that you want, then I would go with those.

The family has run through many sets of them and they wear great and pull great.

Only Ds in the 285.

LTX M/S a few Es

More Es in this style:

LTX A/S

LTX A/T2

It looks like Es in that size are hard to come by in Michelin.

Will shops install D's on your 2500s? I had to go E, they wouldn't let me install Ds.

i just got a fresh set of load range d bfg all terrain atko's to replace the set i was already running, 285/70/17. $1126 for all four canadian and i realize that i didnt get a smoking deal. i got 65,000 kms on the last set and i never had a flat in the 4 years of their lifespan. my dad runs the same tires under his cummins only load range e for the heavier motor combo, some rams develop death wobble when the tierods, balljoints and panhard bar bushings get a bit worn and the slop MAY be exaggerated by a tire with a sidewall that is more flexible. mine is a hemi and ive never had a problem.

I posted this last November, wow.
I saved up and finally bought some new tires a couple days ago. The last ones had 60k on them.
I decided I wanted and bought Cooper Discoverer A/T3. Ive got about 300 miles on them and I like them. They are load range "E" (3195 pounds per tire). LT285/70R17
I paid $980 for all four.
