What is the limit to milling the cylinder head before the timing belt tensioner will not be able to do it's job? Did they ever make a shorter round tooth belt? Did they ever sell a larger OD tensioner instead?

Steve...I *think* that the tall block's had a larger diameter tensioner.

88 2.5T have bigger tensioner, as I've been told.

Do the tall 2.5 tensionsers align with the round tooth belts?

Mike

Cool. Thanks Pat. I'll check into this more and hopefully in the time being... someone here will be able to chime in.

Steve, Mopar used to sell a shorter belt for cars with milled heads/blocks, but it was a square tooth. They also offered a larger diameter tensioner for this purpose. I'm not sure how it compares to the 2.5 tall-block tensioner, but I do have one new in the box somewhere in my garage if you need measurements.

Wouldn't it be great if we could machine everything bigger (bad, bad, shame on me).

The MP tensioner has the hole more "offset" then stock. Maybe drill a new hole more offset??????? My setup is milled .015", and a .052" HG. And the stock metal tensioner is still good. You can mill like .090" but that may be a little scary! So there..........

I don't work at a true machine shop anymore. The lathe where I am now is about as good as two frenchmen.... one holding the stock while spinning in circles (Marcel) while the other is holding the tool (Yvonn).

Cool ... all you need is a french girl and you'd have a spinning "manag e twau"
... that would be worth getting up in the morning then.

You could probably make it at home ... in the basement ... with a 1/2" Millwaukee VS drill motor. Chuck in the stock, grab the googles and get 'er done :P

Wait just a second! All those bitchen gears and stuff you make isn't happening any more:eek: ? Your pieces are so sweet it would be an injustice if you couldn't do them any more:( I think you need to get another job with a full shop again;)

My last name is Mercier, and having french canadian in my blood (49%) makes it official then.

The 2.5 tall deck had a larger timing belt pulley, :thumb:

what year was the 2.5 that should have a larger timing belt tensioner pulley? Part number?

My 88 2.2 pulley is bigger than the, I believe I asked for 87, 2.5 pulley. P4273241

88 Tall Deck 2.5L should have the largest pulley due to, well, you guessed it, tall deck, :eyebrows:

The part number I have is the same for that pulley. I suspect it uses the same timing belt, thus tighter, hence, actually uses a smaller pulley as is evidant by the one I am now returning. Pre-CB; 69mm for the 2.2 one, 51mm for 2.5

The timing belt can't be the same, 2.5 TD is a round tooth, 2.2 is a square tooth.

Thanks for the info on the pulleys. I could have sworn I read tehe 2.5 TD had a larger pulley.

I read that as well, which is why I bought it. Unless the wrong part in the box or something....
