I was browsing through the ad in the back of this months GRM and noticed a company making usb tunable chips for BMW's. I thought to myself "I wonder what kind of chip BMW uses in their computers". A short search found that they use the common 27c256 chips.

there is the tunable chip they offer. It stores 4 different calibrations and can be switched with a 4 way switch. I wonder if it would work for our cars??? I am not sure how their software works but its still a .bin file either way.

I'm sure it would work for our cars if you felt like paying through the nose. At this point you're better off getting a flash adapter from shelgame @ boostbutton.com . His flash adapters are better integrated with the software for our cars and definitely cheaper. I don't know what the pricing is going to be on his adapters but the group buy was 100$/ecu. Miller performance is listing that thing for 350$ and they don't say how the flashing works (hot/cold). You can get an ostrich for less than that and have more features and better support.

IDK what chip they're using , but it looks like a fpga or large mcu on the top of that thing, I'm wondering if the memory is on the underside or if it's integrated into whatever it is that they're using.

I will admit it is pretty expensive, I just thought it was cool. I do like the 4 in one design with a switch. You could easily go pump gas/race gas/E85/valet without pulling your laptop out to change it. I do like the sound of robs adapter but I am getting a ostrich in a week or so. If it was about 100 less I would still look at it as an option.

Also, Moates.net has a cal switcher that will work with our cars and it is under $100 (maybe under $50, I forget). Just burn 4 cals to a 128kb chip and install the switcher...

EDIT: I guess it's just a 2-cal switcher. But, it's only $27...

I bought one of those 2timers before I understood what it actually does. DOH, it's just a matter of setting the highest address line. Really, if you have 1MB of memory, adding that feature a no brainer.
