I know this MAY have been brought up before, but I do not speak BOOST very well yet and a quick and english answer would be very helpful.

I have an '85 Shelby Charger 2.2L Turbo 5spd Manual. When I removed the engine, the CV joint came apart. I have since repaired this problem, but the problem remains that it leaked an unknown amount of fluid. I was told that if the trans is dry it will take 3 qts, and when the shaft pulled out of the trans, it sat that way overnight. But how much fluid is still in it? I have no clue.

My question:

Where do I fill the transmission fluid, and how do I know when it is full?

Last time I pulled the axle in my 568 is was a bit over 2. So I would grab 3 just to make sure.

It should hold no more than 3 litres/quarts.

To fill, remove the drivers side tire and splash shield, you'll see a rubber plug or screw in plug with a hex/allen internal drive.

Usually, you tend just to lose what the differential area was holding, which is around a quart and a half, because there's a sort of partition with the hole high up between that and the rest of the transaxle. But if the car was very nose up, nose down or leaning left or right at much of an angle, you could have lost more or less.

Agreed. I don't pull off the tire though. I just crank the wheel. I will jack up the car so it gets a little extra capacity going though.

Your earlier trans may have the rubber plug or it may have a large hex nut/torx deal on there. If it's the large nut, use a pair of channel locks to remove it.

Plug in the side as was mentioned... its like 2.4 qt, but since it didnt all come out you probably only need 2qt... fill until it starts coming out the fill hole with the car on level ground or even slightly raised is OK.

Now the question... what kinda fluid came out? 5w30?

And you fill it to the top of the fill hole until it comes out...

Thanks, there should be a manual to these things. And Auto trans fluid came out.

There is a manual for it. You can pick up the Factory Service Manuals for cheap off of ebay or the site here on occasion.

I would still top it up with 5w30 or synchromesh.

I would remove the cover, drain the ATF, reseal and fill with 5w-30.

I'd never remove the cover, unless it's leaking and needs reseal. I'd pry one of the CV and get the fluid out.
