It cranks but doesn't start. Has really nasty old gas in it. I drained almost half a tank and it was a dirty almost red color. It tries to start if I spray brake clean down the TB. The plans are to get it running, fix shift linkage, all new brakes, some potenza re11 tires, headliner, possibly srt4 seats, and any other little thing it needs to be a good reliable DD. I've got everything I need to intercool it when I get bored.

Those bumperettes on the front of the car and the rubber strips down the side. Not a very common option at all. Now if you have the illuminated sun visor mirrors you're really onto something.

Really those are rare? the GLHT I picked up has those on the bumpers and I thought they were aftermarket. Also the illuminated sun visor, is that the thing the drops down and swivels kinda like the alien in the movie Flight of the Navigator.

By the way I am extremly jealous of the car, how is the floors and sub frame?

ummmmmm....... noUmmmmmmm...... yes. Preventative maintenance goes a long way bud. People complain these cars aren't reliable, when they have 20+ year old parts on them and they have probably been beaten their whole lives .

They all have that if they have AC.

nice car, you even got the gray interior already, "lucky"... and it probably needs a fuel pump with all that bad gas...

I havent even driven it and i love the little bastard already. It is so rust free, i was able to remove the original exhaust and tank without heat and without breaking a single bolt.

wow, didnt think the pump was going to look THAT bad...

now that i think about it, my black 85 glht had the visor map light, the bumperettes, the anti door ding strip, and some glow in the dark strips on the inside door handles? (not just tape, but molded plastic inserts...)

WOW! I have never seen anything that sludged up. Did someone put diesel or crude oil in the tank?

Yup I got that map light tooo!

But you not having any rust is just unfair!

Anyone know where to get a new sending unit? Or what ones will swap in?

I started working on it. I got a code 27 for injector 3-4. I hooked up a test light and it didnt blink on #3, but it blinked on 1 for only a few cranks. I checked the power and ground wire for the 3/4 injector and they ohmed out good. That leaves the power module. Is an 85 PM the same as an 86?

All of the PMs should be the same.

Did you check for a signal from the PM itself?

Did you check for a signal from the PM itself? No, I just concluded that there was no signal because everything else checked out good. I have a known good spare PM from my 86 daytona that I will throw in there.

They are easy enough to swap out that it can't hurt to do that I guess.

So I put my spare PM in there, and all the injectors are firing. Still won't start though. I pulled the rail off and turned the key, only 1 injector is actually squirting out gas.

I got it to run for a few seconds today with some new injectors. Just waiting for my walbro to come in now.

i was gonna say, that if your gas tank and pump looked like that, then im sure your inj are plugged too, glad to hear you got it running and it doesnt smoke, thats what happend to me. the guy told me it needed a turbo, but it already has a walbro in it. well the walbro was toast from the old gas, the starter was fried, and inj were plugged.

i replaced the turbo and everything else i could find, got it started, and the thing smoked out of every orifice. all 4 pistons were cracked on the ringlands (where i couldnt see when i pulled the head), and i was pretty bummed on that start-up :(

It's a cheap ebay gauge. Those wires are just for the backlight. Seems to be accurate.

It's just one thing after another with this car. Sucks it's been sitting so long. I installed brand new fuel tank, sending unit, walbro, used injectors, new pads/rotors/drums/shoes/calipers/wheel cylinders, rear wheel bearings, all new shift linkage. After all that, I changed the oil and it looked like pudding. I pulled the pan and cleaned it all out. I pulled the valve cover and one of the rockers was laying next to the valve. One of the damn exhaust valves is stuck all the way open. Almost have the head off now. I might as well pull out the pistons and hone the cylinders and slap some fresh bearings in there. Atleast it didn't knock when it started for a few seconds. Gives me an excuse to convert it to t2 now instead of later. I think the only thing I am missing to convert is the throttle cable.

Hopefully. I'm looking at a reman 655 head currently. I might have to pick it up and throw some turbo exhaust valves in it and put that on if my current head is messed up.

OmniLuvr
10-13-2010, 01:36 AM
what destroyed the combustion chamber and piston? is there any way you can resurface the head? thats a bummer...

thedon809
10-13-2010, 06:30 PM
I have no clue. The head is chewed up really bad. I think by the time I get it resurfaced, and gone through, I would be better off getting the reman head. I did pull the pistons today and the cylinder walls look great and so does the crank. There are no scuffs on the piston skirts at all. Not even a ridge at the top of the wall.

Mounted up the civic aluminum radiator and t3 IC. Zip ties are temporary. The radiator is a fingers distance away from hitting the hood.
