Nine cam degrees = eighteen crank degrees.

Do you have that backwards? cam is driven twice crankshaft speed!

It's the other way around - cam runs half the crank speed...

cam is half the crank speed

its a 4 stroke engine so the crank goes thru 2 revolutions per cycle while the cam goes thru 1

Yup, just think about the size of the gears.

Cam gear is 2x the size of the crank gear, so the cam gear spins 1/2 as fast.

Shelgame is right. The cam sprocket has 40 teeth so 9 cam and 18 crank degrees. Just think, 4 strokes is 2 crank rotations in which time the cam has to turn once.

I really have to stop logging in a night when I can't sleep. :banghead:

I remember from another thread that the cam tooth is worth 18 deg, 9 deg isn't that much, I have moved my cam timing 12 deg before using my adjustable cam sprocket.

That depends on what the markings on your cam gear are refering to. It may be labelled in crank degrees which means you moved it 6 cam degrees.
