Ok guys I need a hand with this one.

electric sds
My speedo works intermittently. When it does work the speed is correct, but it will just drop out suddenly. When it stops reading my navigator says 0mpg and the car will pop loudly on decel. When the speedo is working the navigator works normally and the exhaust is quiet on decel.
I have pulled out the sds, cleaned up the connectors and put it back together with no difference. I checked resistance with an ohmeter and it will change as the wheels are turning. I have not checked output voltage.
So my question is should I be looking at the sds or the speedo itself. Can a bad connection at the speedo cause inaccurate readings to the computer and navigator, or is my sds the real culprit here?
