Hey all im having some problems. When my car is under hard accelaration it seems to be sputtering and poping alot. It usally starts around 10 psi and then by the time its up to 16psi is contstant sputering and popping it allmost sounds like a machine gun. Any one have and ideas? All i can think of is maybe cloged injectors but the a/f gauge still reads full rich when its doing it:confused:

Maybe it's too rich. You either have os injectors (or similar problem) or most likely an ignition problem. More often than not when people do a tune up they neglect the distributor cap. After all the rotor hits the wires not the cap, right? There is still a rotor button in the center. Check the ignition system including wires.

Almost sounds like timing to me.

Check cam timing and spark timing.

Sounds like a huge gap in the plugs. Some macho-V8 guy didn't tell you what to gap your plugs to, did he? :blah:

Could be the coil is going down too.

Wait, you're not driving a prelude with open exhaust are you?

Car is a 88 2.2 all stock motor with the mitsu. Timing is at 12* I am running t2 injectors so it is on the rich side. Im thinking the plugs might have some build up on them from running rich all the time im going to give them a good cleaning tommro and see if it helps.

Mine had a bad coil, did the same thing.

I cleaned the plugs up and ran some fuel injector clean though it and its still doing it. Ill swap the coil next im sure i have a few laying around.

First thing I would do is turn the boost down. 16psi is a lot for a stock mitsu turbo car especially if you don't have an intercooler. It's probably detonating like crazy even with TII injectors. They might be a problem also....my TI car would barely run with TII injectors it was so rich.

I would say your rich misfiring, turn down the fuel pressure or put the stockers back in. Theres no need for TII injectors with a near stock setup.

Just gap your plugs down, and forget about it.. ;)

Swaped the coil and cleand up the distrubter cap and its still doing it. The car is intercooled and has been running fine with this same setup for over a year.

So he asks you guys before he asks his DAD....

We're on it, almost sounds like a limp-in mode, but vacc to the MAP is OK...

As he said, the car has been OK with this setup for a long time, this is a new issue.

He's changing the injectors tomorrow, he did the coil / plugs / rotor with no change....

No one's asked if he has any codes yet? Kinda obvious, but those are the things that make the smallest problems the biggest.
