Kinda late for a Project Log since I have been driving this car for almost a decade... so I figured I'd write up a Project Log as a tribute :thumb:

And 2010 its ready to go back to Columbus for the 6th time! :thumb: This year racing "Pro" for the first time, hoping for 13.00's all weekend long! :)

As the thread title says... this might be the farewell tour year for the car :( Don't get me wrong, it has been my favorite car for the last decade, old reliable! BUT I have a few other '87 P-bodies that need more attention and space and this one unfortunately has some cancer and some dents and needs a lot of TLC that I'd rather put into another car... So this one might A) become parts to save another B) Quick floor patch and turn into winter duty? C) Sold to someone who really, really wants a project? Who, knows...

These guys weld in new metal. THey do kick --- work. Figure it would be better to patch it up than send it down sh-t creek without a paddle, ya know?

I would love to see the car patched up and driven... if only to keep it on the road. Looks like a sweet car and I would hate to see it leave cause of cancer.
Find a boiler worker. Found they do awesome weld work and really cheap too LMAO!
No bondo for this baby I hope..

Yeah, I hate to do it... but if I can use parts off it to repair a numbered car, it will happen. If I dont need those parts, it will be for sale.

I have a half dozen 87 p-bodiesin better condition or with a dash plaque that make them more desireable to save... this one has the shortest straw :o

..it did go 13.04 @ 104 in ~100°F today tho :)

How would he be cutting up a numbered car if this car is a clone and he would use this car to fix the numbered cars?

ShadowFromHell
08-15-2010, 02:14 PM
He wouldn't be, but if he decided to go to a large FMIC, or any mods that couldn't be easily reversed on a numbered car. Then he would be cutting up a numbered car. I have a 89 CSX and cant really get myself do any mods to it, because I don't want to cut up a numbered car when a non-numbered car can be found very easily. Thats whats I was talking about. I even went as far on my CSX to drop the back axle out and pull the stock exhaust out in one piece when I went to a 3inch system.

On the same note, I wouldn't think twice about cutting up a 88 CSX-T because they made alot more of them.

*Edit* this is assuming he swapped the drivetrain from this into one of the numbered cars he already said he had, and planned on swapping it all into.

You mean all the crap you did to your ShelbyZ and you'd give up on this car because of some floor pan rust?

Is your history with this car less valuable than a dash plaque?

Correct, thi sis not a numbered car... I call it #751 cuz they only made 750. IF it gets cut up it will be to help save #252

I wouldnt say give up as much as just wanting to start with a cleaner canvas... I want to build a road course shadow and yes, I could use this one, but would rather use another ES I have to make another CSX clone with. I could use a CSX for that duty but would use a non-numbered car for that...

Runs from this past weekend's Mopar Nats PRO class. Had the Z's 24.5x8.5" M&H's and skinnies on it.. The slicks are a tad tall for it and I never actually got them to spin. The air quality pretty much sucked all weekend, HOT and HUMID, baaad turbo air. But the car still ran OK. ...and any trip to the track the car can drive on and off the trailer is a win :)

Run #1 (Friday) - Right off the trailer, 5000k RPM launch, bogged..... :(

R/T: .134

1/4ET: 13.974
1/4mph: 101.75

Run #2 (Friday) - Left harder, closer to 6000 RPM... hook, no spin, slight bog - BooYaa, my consistent 13.0X car :thumb: Just need to work on the R/T now :o

R/T: .342

1000'ET: 10.873
1/4ET: 13.047
1/4mph: 104.34

Run #3 (Saturday) - Right off the trailer... concentrating too much on the tree trying to get a good light, didnt leave hard enough and bogged... but got a decent light :)

R/T: .007
60': 2.021
330': 5.583
1/8ET: 8.546

1/4ET: 13.296
1/4mph: 103.93

Run #4 - (Sunday time run) Right off the trailer, trying for another good light... Oooops :o and bogged it worse on a freshly prepped track :o

R/T: -.102
60': 2.238
330': 5.919
1/8ET: 8.893
1/8mph: 83.82
1000'ET: 11.457
1/4ET: 13.651
1/4mph: 103.44

Run #5 - (Sunday - Round 1) So with all of the above, what do you dial? 13.30 hoping to have a good light and not bog and have the luxury of driving to win... yeah, didnt happen... :(

Took some pics when the head was off...

History - Got this 2.2L in a SL in 1998... pulle din 99, dropped it into the Shadow in 01. Had a FelPro HG on it that blew between cylinders in 2004 at the 2004 Mopar Nats.. replaced (slip-n-slide) w MP 006 HG... was running a little warm (not hot) on the highway and had lived through all my abuse...

Fast forward to a couple weeks ago... I didnt want to have to replace it at this years Nats so I put another HG on it a couple weeks ago. So firs ttime looking at eth head... eeeew thats dirty, let me scrape it clean with a razor blade... anything wrong here? ... well it had been running good so I slapped it back on with a thick coat of Permatex "Head Gasket in a can" :thumb:

Bringing the thread back... Raced it a few times since. Seems after the HG in the end of 2010 and through 2011 it was a consistant 12.90 car. Have contemplated taking the A555/350 gear OBX out and putting it in the Z it shifts so well, LOL!

Right now it sits... :( and I really dont have time to do much to it to help it out.... and it needs some help on the DS floor panel :(

I didn't renew the plates this year and need to make the decision to fix/part/sell it.

Fix it - need time and space

Part it - Have another twin 58k mile 87 ES and a couple 87 CSX project cars that could benefit

Sell it - Not sure if anyone would want to give me what I have into it in its current condition?

Got some nice parts on it... Koni's, MP Auto XSprings, A555/350 hybrid with OBX, custom one-off Clutchnet clutch, Motegi wheels, complete longblock out of a Shelby Lancer including 2-pc intake, minus "Shelby" valvecover (put a 1-pc gasket one on LOL), 52mm t-body, Magnecor 10mm, Powerstack air filter, rad/intercooler out of my Shelby Z, Autometer Boost Gauge, Halmeter AF30 NB A/F, etc. etc... PLUS, super 12-second timeslip CRACKED HEAD! ;) Oh, and it has some rattle when cold, but once the 10w40 warms up it quiets down... I've had it together since 2001 and have put quite a few miles on it (changed gauge clusters so would have to do math to know exact) but the whole time it has run on nothing lower than 100 octane :D ... BadAssPerformance "Boostoid" Boost controller (Grainger LOL) will make solid 19psi in the 1/4 mile, and I have seen 27psi in 5th on the highway... pulling like a freight train.. Oh, that reminds me... CSX Stage II LM and MiniMopar took the boost cutout out of it (thanks again!) It also has DSS L5 Axles in it, but I kinda need those for the Z right now, LOL!

Damn... after writing this, I just wanna go drive it now....

Pics as it sits from Fall 2011:

Why not throw an asking price out there and see if you have any takers. That will probably help you to decide what you're going to do with it.

It's time consuming, but I'd say part it and use the parts for the elevenity-billion other ones that are in need of a resurrection. :)

Rust sucks.

Looks to me like where the ebrake cable goes through is the worst of it, it's starting, but not deep elsewhere by looking at the pics, you can drench it in WD-40 every couple of months and it will hold it up for years... in this neck of the woods it would be a "Hmm, not too bad"

I agree with dsc, I'd try to either part it or return it "to stock" and get a few bucks for the body. Don't know if it's worth it or not (time invested, etc.), but that's the exact decision I'm trying to make with my 89 spirit es.

Thats the only big hole I found... yes, thats the carpet padding you see in the underside shot. Rest is usual midwest surface rust shown in the pics.

Update... Haven't driven the car (except around the block) for a couple years. Anyone interested in the thing as a whole? Has hole in driver side floor and rusty brakes.
