After 177,000 miles the clutch plates in the Wife's T1 GTS finally went, the teeth on the fiber plates were gone.

I did all the good things; 5 clutch plates in the front drum, rebuilt torque converter, diff retainers, and added the governer spring inside. :thumb:

I works *great*, BUT: shift points are high.

I didn't touch the valve body/line pressure while it was out

Me thinks the governer spring that keeps it from sticking in gear also keeps the valve from shifting up as early as stock. :confused2:

The 1/2 shift is at 3000rpm - about 25mph now.

So driving around the subdivision it never leaves 1st gear. :yuck:

It also downshifts more than it used to.....

Ideas???

Lengthen the throttle pressure cable?

You got the sonnax gov kit? There were 2 different springs. You should have used the lighter one.

Nope, this spring was included in the rebuild kit... Only one there.

I'll look into that - the 88 at least does'nt have the adjustment "slot" on the cable holder thing-ey.

Loosen up the kick down cable or remove it temporarily and then test drive it.

UPDATE:

The cable adjustment helped, it shifts closer to where it was before the rebuild, but still a little bit high. :thumb:

I can deal with it..... ;)

Are you talking about the adjuster on the transmission? I dont know what slot there is in the system other than the one on log throttle arms..

The adjuster is where the cable is bolted to the front/top of the bellhousing with a 10mm bolt. You should see a spring on the cable in that area. That thing is the adjuster.

There is no slot, you lift up on a plastic clip at the bracket, reset and push the clip back down.

The governor spring will alter the upshifts but not WOT shifts. I seem to recall its a light spring so it shouldn't really affect the shifts that much.
