I would love to get a DC intercooler for my charger! I'm thinking about doing the same with my 86, I would like to see how fast the log intake can go. Good luck, I'll be watching!

Do it up with all the DC stuff you can get your hands on - kit, spoiler, hood scoop, speed parts, etc... be a nice throwback to the way things were done when these cars were still new

No, but if you swap to the minivan large bolt pattern, I think actually late-model mustang wheels will bolt on. I don't think they would look good on a Charger at all.

Thats gonna be awesome dude!
I like idea of a t1 log record holder. Some alky injection will help with the top mount aswell. Port the ---- out of the log intake, port the exhaust mani, port the head and a good tune and I dont see why it couldnt be a t1 log record holder with a decent turbo

They're getting harder to find. I'd rather cut up a flat hood since they are way more plentiful.

Back when I was doing my car, I looked and looked and looked and looked and looked for a bulge hood because mine was in such bad shape. I found flat hoods in every junk yard, but couldn't find a good bulge hood. I gave up and put a ton of work in the one I had.

Not sure really I havnt checked into it. At my part time job boss man says the 20 year old stuff runs about 150/yard. (I also work for a trim and top shop)

There is some really retro stuff in the shop though, but not enough to make anything out off.

Can you give me so measurments for the cut out on the hood? I am looking to put the intercooler kit on my 85 Shelby Charger. Would you happen to have a extra scoop? I know that is a far fetch question but I thought I would ask. Do you happen to have a extra flat hood? Have you seen the snake skin green that the paint the new Viper's in. I think a Charger would look good in that color. Thanks for any help.

Woo hoo, easy sand blast and reseal/ paint job on the floors.

So are you going to leave the sunroof or find a new roof to put on? these cars are anywhere from 20-30 years old, not surprising to find that over the years/ owners stuff like that has been done to them.

put up some pictures of the headliner board from the inside. If the board is formed to fit the sunroof than its a factory installed/or dealer installed option. If the board is all hacked to fit around the sunroof and the material is just stretching over it than its aftermarket.

Aries_Turbo
08-08-2010, 05:01 PM
the 85 dc computer still uses the log manifold ecu with its cyl injector scaling stuff to account for the different flow between cyl's..... i dont know how much boost you are planning on running or if you are going to try to go 3-bar, but this will have to be addressed, either with 10 percent larger injectors for 1&2 and use a 87 ecu or someone trying to scale a 85 cal to 3-bar and larger injectors.

running +40's in #1&2 and dsm 450cc in #3&4 should be about right for the cyl leanout when used with a 87 LM. youll have some work to do dialing in the pumping efficiency table as i have no idea where to start with that lol. i dont know if ive ever seen a pumping efficiency table for a 85-87 log manifold t1. i guess start with 87 t2 and do a few no boost or real low boost tuning runs with a wideband to dial that in. youll have to lower it a decent amount i assume. that assumes that you have a chip burner or someone around that can help you tune it.

And by the way, I once bought a DC valve cover that the seller did not tell me was modified for a turbo car. Unfortunately,I no longer have it as I sent it back to him to get my money back (royal pain). But nonetheless, what he had done was welded the rear hole shut. Seeing the resources you have in terms of shops and body guys helping you get the hood and stuff together, no reason you couldn't get one of these valve covers and have them do a nice smooth weld for you so you can complete that DC engine bay look!

Love the project :thumb:

Just for reference, the SBEC has the ability to add/remove injector PW of the individual cylinders. It really would not be too hard to add a constant trim to each cylinder for running the log manifold. Plus, you'd gain the SMPI functionality. Of course, it's probably no small feat to convert an early L-body to SBEC...

DC stuff has limitations. you dont want to nuke a motor just because you wanted to stick to an ideal.

if we had all the memory locations of the 86 stuff defined, a 3-bar, larger injector cal would be doable on all DC stuff, but unfortunately it isnt.

the only person that i know of the used to offer 86 3-bar +40 cals was matt wright and it was based on the GLHS cal and i dont know if it has the same locations as the DC cal.

I've got some really good info on the '85 stuff. Just never had the time or inclination to turn it into usable cal files. But, I'd be happy to share it with whomever. It's old files from the old ECM list on Yahoo. I don't even remember who posted it...

I don't have a use for it but I would enjoy looking at it. and that would give me an excuse to use a LM in one of my future builds.:eyebrows:

if its on the ecm list, i probably have it too. i too havent taken the time to make a table file with it. is the stuff that chad c worked on?

Maybe. It's a word document deatilling the fuel lookups for the '85. There's another word document dealing with the spark, boost, etc. They're pretty good, they give addresses and stuff. You could make a pretty good table file from the data if you took the time to do it...

Looking good!

I'd take the coil and flip it 180 degrees then shorten the coil wire.

idk if I would mount the coil there. its going to see ALOT of vibration from the engine.

i would find also find a nippo alternator if you are going to update the electronics

I ran the coil there for years with no problems.

I agree on changing to a Denso alternator. The one you have there is a "when will it fail?"

you should paint the silver stripe back on instead of getting the repop vinyl that way you can clear over the whole thing and be able to wax the car without worrying about staining or fading the vinyl.

Well it's coming along, but not at any pace I can brag about. Been dealing with a few issues, been traveling for work and the money isn't there to get it painted, which is really the next big thing I want to do with it. Besides that, it's my daily driver so hard to do anything with it when it has to be operational. I'll live vicariously through you for now. :)
