friendly encounter with a Cobalt SS

Stumbled upon a supercharged cobalt SS today after work. I don't know what mods other than the obvious chrome fart box hanging off the back. A younger guy, maybe mid 20's like myself driving with his girlfriend. We both left the light easy and almost simultaneously we both got on it. Niether of us could pull on the other. lol. It was a fun run. I shot him a thumb up and he returned the gesture. Mine is an '89 lebaron coupe stock 2.5 T1 sans balance shafts(which I regret) with a T2 turbo and intercooler, home rigged CAI, 2.5" SV DP and cat(which is coming apart inside) and 3" after cat with a magnaflow muffler. Boost is between 13-14psi. I don't know how those SS cobalts usually run but I was happy he couldn't pull on me. :D

Supercharged Cobalts run low 15's to high 14's stock
Turbocharged Cobalts will be in the low 14 sec range stock.

The turbo Cobalts are nice. I'd probably take one over an SRT4.

Supercharged = 15.30's
Turbocharged = 14.10's
My bud at work has a turbocharged one, added a catless downpipe
and a tune = 12.91@110

The turbo Cobalts are nice. I'd probably take one over an SRT4.

If i had to replace my Neon SRT-4, I would look for a Cobalt SS turbo, but just like the NSRT-4's, they stopped making them, so finding a used one that hasn't been beat up will be a challenge.

I would take an Nsrt4 before i took a cobalt ss COUPE. Id take the sedan over the neon, though.

No, they are. And very understated looks compared to the Coupes! There was never a supercharged sedan, though.

Only made them in 09.

There's a guy around here with a black turbo HHR SS with big front mount...it's decently quick and it looks really nice. I used to think those were a PT knockoff, but they're tons better and better looking than the PT's.

I dont think they are better overall but definitely have better proportions!! I always thought what the pt cruiser really needed was another foot or 18" of length.. but it never got it. HHR lives on, though.
