When my bro 1st picked up his used 88 A-555 the pressure plate fingers were wore extremely bad. We thought nothing of it since the trans had around 140,000kms on it... not to mention the original TOB could have gone bad during that time.

Anyways, he put in a new T2 PP, clutch and TOB and after his piston fried due to a FPR issue.. he had to take the engine out. Upon sight of the clutch he noticed the same thing again. The PP fingers were almost complete wore off. This was only after about 25,000kms and the TOB seemed to be fine.

Well he put in another new T2 PP, clutch and TOB last year and the spare engine he put ended up having severe blow-by issues. So this spring he took that out again and after about 5k he noticed more excessive wear on the PP.

Any idea's on what is causing this?

Sounds like your bro is keeping his foot on the clutch pedal, thats the only explanation if the TOB is new everytime. This system is designed to leave alittle pressure on the fingers.

I would inspect the bushings that hold the release shaft in the case. If they are cracked/broken/missing, it can make the TOB press unevenly on the fingers. There should also be a large 'E' clip holding the shaft into the case.

Also make sure to clean and grease the input shaft bearing retainer that the TOB slides on. Check for excesseive wear on the casting. The earily TOBs did not have the plastic guide sleeve and the steel TOB would wear the casting and start binding up.
