so after a tremendous 13 hour drive from MD, i unloaded the daytona, we took a ride out to streamwood, and what a pleasant suprise!! this lil fellow followed me home!!!! ......

so he was slightly banged up, but i picked it up for $20 bucks... i couldnt resist.....sooooo its looking like im going to need some parts, if anyone has some stuff there not going to use...."The Bacon" sure could use some surgery ... thats what i named it "the Bacon" in honor of the SDAC 20 epic parking lot conversation:thumb:!!

1987 Horizon auto fact loaded including rear wiper!!!! "The Bacon"

so far it looks like i need...
R L fenders
hood
core support
head light "doors"
pass corner marker ....
grill
there is a small dent in the front bumper however it wasnt from this crash....

the kid i got it from rear ended a landscaping truck....and it hit up high....the frame rails seem to be srtaingt and the core support crossmember is straight also....also the cowl panel is untouched.....that was the kicker for me right there!!!..and the fact it has NO RUST!!!!!! is a big plus...

not sure i wanna do a 5 lug conversion considering its primarrly going to be for drag'n but do plan on T2 w/ either SBEC or SMEC or poss Big Stuff3 FI.....still up in the air on making a banger car or keep it auto...we all know how i love my autos....but it will hopefull remain this look, as the paint is fresh and it has only 6x,000 miles on him...prob going to see the TIV 2.2 block i got go in it, and i dont know what else yet oh and TONS of weight reduction.....so most of the interior will be coming out and i think id be willing to trade some pieces for some things i need....ill get a bunch more pics up later....

LOL... I vote 2.2L here. An L-body makes your Sebring's engine compartment look roomy! Dont get me wrong, it will fit, but each 16V L-body I see, I dont mind my big heavy Daytona so much :o

A light car can go far with a T03, can easily upgrade later too. I say get it running first and go from there.

UPDATE!!!

ok so i been working on the front end, getting her all straight, and decided to do a bolt on core support.....check other thread....

well in the mix of making this all work, i decided hmmmm maybe i should do a i piece removable clip.....after pondering for a bit...this is what i came up w/...

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs223.snc4/38473_1567253940187_1200586324_31581825_4473757_n. jpg

i did notice i do have to now reinforce the cross member.... im still going to bolt the bracket on the bottom up and the bumper plate will the the cs to the frame...and the 4 fender bolts on top and i think just "hidden" bolt....

i have a set of glh side skirts but im undecided if i want to run them w/ the 1 piece, as id have to cut the to have the first 8 inches come off w/ the fender...so i may run w/o them, mabye pop a mold off em....or just say f'it and upset the purest's.....

but i like it its different, deff will be efficient, esp if i replace most the bolt w/ Dzus clips....:D

turbokid
07-25-2010, 02:43 PM
thats an awesome idea. good work. Will make certain jobs a breeze when you can just remove the entire front clip!

If the only difference between the drums was 4lug vs 5lug, you can do the swap just by changing out the hub and the drum and leave all the backing plate and hardware stuff alone. I swapped my 85 new yorker to 5lug this way.

If we're still talking about the drums, the drums themselves have something like max diam. 200 or 220 mm cast right into them. iirc.

11-04-2010, 08:53 PM
just went and checked, but 5 lug drum will not fit over 4 lug backing plates....you have to swap the plates....

so after one last hurahh in the daytona at 21, its finally going to meet its maker, as the shell is just to rotted on her... sad, but i did land some good memories, one being the 2nd fastest auto Gbody on the T-M turbo times!!! :)

anyways R.I.P lil daytona, you heart, soul and drive train will now reside in The Bacon!!!

now that its getting colder out, ive had some time to get working on this thing, tackling one of the bigger parts... wiring!!!

being that this was a carb car, it had the most simplistic wiring in it, soooo ive decided to use the SBEC set up out of the Shelby and "adapt it to the lil Lbody body wiring... this included, changing the 40 way dash side bulk head to the 50 pin daytona one... daunting task at thought but pretty simple when you just get down to it... and im pretty dang confident i got all i need.

keep in mind this is a "street car" not a daily driver, so most amenities are gone I.E. radio, heat, wipers etc...

heres a link to some pics of the swap... http://www.turbo-mopar.com/forums/showthread.php?63307-SBEC-50-pin-to-87-40-pin&highlight=

heres some pics... kinda boring but eh its progress...

All with the plugs easily accessible... Good eye!!! As far as the ground James, SBEC didn't use the injector ground... Sbec took car of grounding each injector individually while using a common +...

sweet!! yeah for the longest of time i was seeing people cutting the tubes off the sbec/smec... and i wasnt fond of that look, obviously i didnt get a real close look at you car Rob but yeah great minds think alike ;)... oh and btw i need a boost button sticker to put on the computer...

oh and the cool factor in this... i am planning on having a little computer fan to blow on the air vents of the sbec case... well where i have it, sits right in behind of one of the hvac vents on the dsah...ill attach the fan to the to the vent, a walla, computer air grabber!!

unfortunately, the computer isnt any more readly available (than in the factory spot) so changing chips isnt any quicker.... sooooo were going to need to do something about that.... im thinking flashable SBEC and your SCI cable, as the DRB is right next to the fuse box

use a chip extender that mounts to the inside of the glove box lid. or use one of rob's flash deals.

looking good. :)

Flash computer is the only way to go. I have two of them one SMEC and one SBEC. Program changes in seconds and no messing around with pulling chips, erasing, burning ect. flip a switch or push a button and 6 seconds later the computer is flashed.

thanks guys!! for what little time i have dedicated to it, im really happy how its coming along... and Dean, ive had alot of inspiration recently seeing your sexy beast come together. i truely admire your craftsmanship and your creativity and look forward to seeing it terrorize the track!!

as for right now, i think im going to run the set up i had running in the Daytona, the 2.2L 46 trim .63 stage 2 on 3 bar and +40s... i will be replacing the intercooler with something a little bit MORE cooler ;)

but Rob burned me a cal at 21 that just ROCKS!!! so for right now, im going to run that, and see what the same tune wil do 1000lbs less :D

however, holest and more flow build is in the works, once that goes into effect, then yes i will be going the Flashable SBEC and SCI comm from BB, thanks for the input Benji

LOL... I vote 2.2L here. An L-body makes your Sebring's engine compartment look roomy! Dont get me wrong, it will fit, but each 16V L-body I see, I dont mind my big heavy Daytona so much :o
and when you put it in sideways even more room! :)
