View Full Version : Turbo rebuiding questions ??????? Need Help

I just got a used turbo now I need to find a good( great) site for instructions to rebuilding (tryed allpar { re; lucasviking something but can not get on it} but maybe it is closed or I just am not doing something right , please HELP or may be some one in Chic area can help me> T-1 garrett,no end play but some side wiggle, hard to tell how much, thanks todd

Clay, thats great but how about the other two parts, plan to do over the next few weeks maybe, as soon as 4th of july, do not know if I mention in the past but your 4-dr looks really cool, todd:eyebrows:

The only bad thing about that link is there is no mention of marking the backplates to compressor wheel, or wheel to shaft. I always mark the compressor wheel to the shaft. That way it goes back together correctly.

Thats somewhat up for debate. Although its not a bad practice to mark the wheel to the shaft, in theory the shaft and wheel are balanced independently then assembled. So really it shouldn't matter what the orientation is when you put it back together.

If you check ebay for rebuild kits you can find a good diagram of the turbo and its parts. The GN website has a good write up on doing a rebuild.

Things to watch for, scoring on the shaft, or in the center section where the bearings go, and the ring in the ring land behind the wheel on the shaft being too loose - too much side to side play.
