Im broke and want to take my NY to the track. I want/need to open the exhaust up and have decided to "adapt" a side exit to the stock exhaust, I don't have the time or money to re-do it all right now. Ive had side exits before, and know they arent quiet. I was thinking a turn down right at the door would make the exhaust easier to hide, and might be quieter. Any thoughts?

I did that on my daytona, I'm wanting to be more discrete. Trying to build a sleeper here ;) Im wanting to know how its going to affect the noise/sound.

Also did that on my tona... It was so loud I couldnt hear the rod knock that killed the motor.

Did I mention I dont have a daytona anymore? lol.

How does it sound? It looks like 3 inch... Mine will be 2 1/4. Does it resonate of the ground real bad?

Why? I went 14.3 at 15psi through the factory exhaust in my T2 Yorker. Sounds like a jet but still was quick :)

I swear your track is down hill! Im going to the track hopefully next wed. Id like to see 13's. That and if I could get it spool a little quicker it wouldnt be so doggy of the line. At least I think :confused2:

exiting under the car is going to be loud. Really I'd just leave it. Cut the cat out if anything.

Cats gone and has been replaced with a pair of SRT4 resonators. Why SRT4 resonators? Because I always get to do the welding work on my buddies cars. The only rule is that I keep what I cut off!

I miss having a loud car too... I got to the rents house and they dont hear me pull it in. My mom said its kinda strange. lol.

See I cut the cat out and just replaced it with a piece of 2.5" pipe. I guess I should change my post above to read: "Through the factory muffler" Since I had a 2.5" d'pipe and no cat but the over the axle piece and muffler were stock.

A loud car is fun, but I guess I'm getting old and over it. I don't want the attention from all the cops up here or other people. I love my magnaflow muffler, it's quiet with a deep tone and flows as good as 3" straight pipe. It's the best of both worlds.

I guess I gave up on straight pipe loud when I took my Daytona to SoCal a few years back. Me and a HS buddy went ripping through the twisties behind my dad's place that we used to go flying around in HS. But the tona is loud at full boost, the roads are AutoX tight almost so lets just say there was lots of heel and toe d'shifting and throttle modulation. It was a 5 minute ride at most and I had 3 or 4 Orange County Sherriff's trying to zero in on me in that time. Thankfully when we passed one coming up to bust me we had stopped and were just loping down the hill in 5th at 2000 rpms maybe. But he tried to turn around, got stuck and we were a block and a half from home. Went out to find them in a different car and they were all at the bottom of the hill talking.

Loud can be fun and sound good but I'd rather be fast and stealthy these days. And you can still go plenty fast with the stock muffler, just sounds funny but it's cheap :)

TURBOJERK that L-body you have would look so great with a set of bumpers.

turn-downs are the way to go imo.

Maybe Ill leave it for now, and then cut it off next time. See how much faster it gets ;)

Ive got a muffler off a 89 tona, and it has 2 outlets. I was thinking about installing that. It would still look factory...

Im not talking about leaving the line in boost, that I can do. Using the brake of course. Im talking about around town driving. Its horrible. It spools about 300rpm higher then the stall, so its really doggy untill the boost comes on, about halfway through a intersection.

Any type of side exit is quieter than a turn down as the sound will bounce back off the pavement.

Where are you going, PIR? I'll be there the 26 and 27, bike racing, :D

That would flow a little better but maybe not worth the work.

Tangent time. How do you tell the stall speed?

2 foot it, that's a pretty close way.

Ok but what happens? If I put both feet to the floor the max rpms is the stall?

Yes, it will only go so high, HP and TQ can affect the stall but its close enough. Should be around 32-3500 rpm.
