View Full Version : What do you HAVE to do before SDAC?

Reeves

Thought it would be fun to start a thread (after seeing DJ's engine on the floor) about what you need to get done before SDAC......whether it be car related or not!

Me:
OMNI:
Bolt seats down with new hardware I got/made yesterday.
Finish modifying door panels and install.
Wait for 2nd set of window cranks to come in and hope they are correct length.
Tear apart trans and check synchros/bearings. Install new clutch.
Change slicks.
Test and Tune.

Trailer:
New tires and wheels should be on there way.
Check brakes, pack bearings.
Need to remove vent covers and get new ones.
Wash.

Golfed Cart:
New belts to replace shredded ones that caused crash.
Repair body from crash.
Shorten bed so it will fit in trailer sideways.
Remove tire from wheel to clean out debris from bead from crash.

Cooler:
Load with plenty of beer!

Golf cart crash? Pics and/or story please!

1. I need to pressure test the cooling system to see whether or not I am actually going to bring the Horizon.

2. If 1 goes ok.. going to make a gasket for a 58mm throttle body. Can't seem to find a part number for one. Install throttle body. Adjust idle.

Golf cart crash? Pics and/or story please!

Don't have pics of the crash....have pics of cart but not here at work.

Very short version:
Doing an estimated 45 to 50mph down hill the trans belt came off and got wrapped up in transmission causing the back wheels to lock up and spin sideways. Started flipping. I supposedly bailed after the first flip. Cart did about 3 flips. Went to ER next day (after sobering up) for an injured hip. Was on crutches for 1 day until the Vicodins kicked in. Battery flew out and busted and you should see my clothes!

Adjust idle. Install bigger jets.

Fixed it for you...

Me:
Plan a week ahead since I'll be in Boston the whole week before SDAC.

Car:
Finish up the T-II swap on the Shelby Charger... Attached is where it currently sits...

Backup:
Who knows. The Durango doesn't really want to race anymore.

Well, if I am bringing the CSX, i need to figure out the bog im getting under boost, tune the car, clean up the engine bay, wash, wax etc.

But.....im leaning toward bringing the charger and having a stress free fun time auto crossing and drag racing it until it blows up. In that case, I need to install the 3" exhaust (waiting on it from Chris W.), install the +40's and 3 Bar, re-scale the cal, and swap the nitrous out of the CSX and into the Charger. :nx::wow1: Shooting for 12's in my light weight rodded, P.O.S Shelby Charger. :eyebrows:

That's the one currently in the works for being saved. :) Body wise the car is rust-free, unlike the white one which has a few good sized holes in the strut towers. It will still be lowered some, but not quite like in the picture, as it is on ebay coilovers.... and THOSE SUCK. Just an fyi :)

The ebay 20g that was on it is now on the white one. (the blue one is getting all the good parts from the white one) And you know what? For an ebay turbo.. the thing boosts quite well; but it will probably only last a few thousand miles. What makes me angry about the blue one is all the hacked up wiring. *sigh*

Can't wait to see everyone so good luck with all the last minute to dos!!

- If you're in a business, either do the job you promise or turn it down. If you find that you won't have time to do a job by an agreed upon date and then 2 weeks beyond given extension, then contact your client and let them decide whether to pull it from your business or keep waiting. My interior has been sitting at the upholsterer since the last week in March. Even though I made several calls, visits and extended the deadline a week, it literally sat in the same spot that I placed it in when I dropped it off. Plan B for the interior, whatever that's going to be.

- Wideband installed and working great. Exhaust cutout won't be put in right now.

- Found a couple of dyno shops in the area and now I need to make a decision which to use.

I'd like to get the windows tinted before SDAC as the car doesn't have air and keeping the heat down on the long trip would be nice.

Ship spares, tools, new tires, and misc stuff to hotel for installation on the car when I get there. Gonna be fun having a TM to drive at SDAC, what a concept for me:D If it breaks and it can't be fixed in the parking lot, dunno how it's getting home:o Hmm, spare nitrous kit here, wonder if I shold put it in the box with the spares kit...

Well i kinda got started on what I needed to get done. Gave my brother my 58mm TB to weld a lip on it for the upper intercooler hose to grip to. He went a little overbored (pun intended) and bored it out and made a larger throttle plate for it. I dunno if my intake manifold will be big enough for it now, but I can't complain. Also got my long throttle bracket stud from McMaster to be able to mount my nitrous activation switch. Need to have it all done this weekend. Towing the car down to his house so then he can tow it out to SDAC in time for the drags.

Still have to clean up the SRT-4 and change the fluids in it.

Yup. I understood that. I'm still planning to bring both cars tho, as the Horizon is no fun to autocross and the SRT-4 wouldn't make the Q16 at the drags.

Work on datalogging system - DONe :)
Modify and test cal for a black L-body - DONe (mostly) :)
Port Lower intake I had welded up - Started
Pull head, install intake, spray each layer of cometic so it will hold coolant at high boost. - This weekend
Port upper intake for 52mm TB, or install alterative if done in time:eyebrows: - Alternative won't be ready in time for SDAC :( - Porting upper this weekend
Upgrade IC piping to 2.5" - If parts get here in time
Install bigger injectors - Next week...hmm 75s or 95s? :eyebrows:
Tune, Tune, Tune - Good thing I have a log drive to SDAC :D

Pray that nothing goes wrong in the next 1 week...

Updated above. Add replace front brake pads to the list.

This is going to be a trick to get done given what is going on at work in the next week.

Here's an update on my list:

- New wheels and tires arrived and on!!! :D I need to take a few pictures and post them up.

- Found a great set of slightly used M/H slicks! Now I to get them mounted and try 'em out!

The wife and I going leaving tomorrow for a visit back to MI and back home Monday. Work is really picking up so I'm not sure when I am going to get the rest of my stuff done. Here's another update:

Finish installing my interior

Still have to take pics of the wheels or maybe just let everyone see when I get there.

Got the slicks mounted on some Ninjas and they clear the calipers . Now to run it soon and pray I don't break anything.

Wideband and boost gage mounted in part store A-pillar pod. Looks silly but it's functional. Need to review other's setup to see what I want to do in the future.

Not sure I'm going to get to a dyno before SDAC so the fine tuning may not happen. Did receive my chip burner, chip extender, cable and reburnable chips though.

Warren Hall (csxtra) built the manuals (A568/A523 hybrid) in my Spirit R/T and he also helpd James Reeves with the latest rebuild/revise of the A555/A460 (A555 with 3.05 ratio from an old 4 speed + Quaiffe) in his GLH-T. I'm sure there will be others who can help. The issue would be having the needed rebuild parts there. It was a used cable. I got it from sean because he took my spare cables for his car. The plastic cover was melted so it was allowing the cable to flex instead of shifting into 2nd.
