I recently purchased a 94 2.2L TBI engine to rebuild into a TII engine for my car. The main thing that Im curious about it the fact that it doesnt have the larger coolant passages behind the cross drills on the deck surface. I was wondering why Chrysler would eliminate those collant passages. Im also curious to know if it would be wiser to go with a 2.5L block that I have, or to use this block. I would like to stick with this block because it doesnt have all the holes drilled in it for balance shafts.

Thanks,

Ben Huebner

I'm pretty sure the head gasket covers those holes.

Thanks

According to what I have read, around the early 90's, say around 92, the TBI and Turbo blocks are identical, except the turbo drain back isn't machined out. So using the 2.5 block is unneccesary as its the same block you have now. The block in the pic even has the CD holes.

Its the hole behind the cross drill that Im wondering about, the 89 2.5L block has it but the 94 TBI doesnt. Im going to dig out my MP headgasket and confirm that the holes are covered like GLHS60 pointed out. ZIf they are covered, I guess it doesnt matter either way.

Thanks,

Those holes are covered. Just put a 2006 headgasket on this weekend.

Cool, it looks like Ill be using the 94 block then. Its amazing how much more clean the 94 block is, also it has alot less rust.
