I'm faced with a dilemma of either resurfacing my original flywheel ($35) or purchasing a new one ($45). I don't care about the price difference but I want the better product. Does anybody know if I can trust these "new" aftermarket flywheels like this one here:

or am I better off resurfacing?

Let me know!

Thanks!!

I would resurface. If they are anything like a lot of the rotors I'm seeing these days, they are made in China and are warped out of the box.

yeah but even the highest quality ultra-expensive Snap-On tools are made in China.. I think it's the company that monitors quality control and these guys seem really enthusiastic about this plan

resurfacing will provide a better surface for break in as long as it's not turned on a brake lathe type machine.

Some of "new" flywheels are actually reman and require a core. In those cases i've had good experiences. They are rebalanced and resurfaced, and best of all usually on the shelf instead of waiting half a day. I clicked on that link and since it doesn't require a core and says NEW in bold, it is probably like the chineese rotors, i'd say pass for sure!

I have nothing against Chinese manufacturing in general. My company has a small army there too. The key is monitoring their quality like a hawk. The typical company looks at China to save money. They are often more interested in that than the quality of their products. I call it "cashing-out their brand". So the typical manufacturing company in China caters to that.

They are also very secretive because of the rebranding and whatnot that goes on (same product rolling off a line with 10 different brand names on it being sold at different prices). Just look at what Harbor Freight sells. You can get of the exact same stuff painted different colors for 2 or 3 times the price at Sears (like jacks, jack stands, etc). Drives me nuts.
