Judging by the years these are from. Both were from 92' to 94' vehicles. I've never torn them apart. Any way to tell from the tag itself?

Normally those years are fine gears, large input shaft, but you never know. Only way that I know of is to look inside. Go over to Donavansgarage.com

The info/ID tag on the transmission should say when they were built.
3.77 should only be in the 92+ 523/543. which are all (to the best of my knowledge) course gear sets.
3.85 was only around for 90-91 (per info posted on a good authoritative info site) and before the course cut gears were around for the 523/543. FWIW, I have a 91 523 w/3.85 ratio out in the shed and its definitely a fine cut gear set compared to the pictures posted here of the course cut ones.
but you never know. Only way that I know of is to look inside
+1 to that. I'm sure theres always an exception to the rule somewhere out there, waiting to challenge whats become accepted as the standard information.

I stand corrected, the 3.85 should be a small spline gearset. My dumba** didn't look at the date tag.
